Searched some Ikes ... are these 1972 Type 2?

I searched a bunch of Ikes yesterday and came up with these coins. Are they Type 2s?

    Yes they are! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

    Great! I thought they were.

I read somewhere that this coin is the "King of Ike Varieties." I searched through about 700 Ikes yesterday. About 100 were 1972-P.

Is finding two coins from this group a good percentage?

  • Good job! Those are tough. I searched about 200 Ike's the other day, most were 71-D, 72, and 72-D, but not a single type 2.

    Nice score.

I searched many coins in my Ohio trip for a T2 and did not find one.

Looks like it was worth searching the coins!

In the past, I just sold Ikes in bulk for less than $1.50.

I would say so. I just did a mental calculation and got 1 T 2 for every 300 1972 P. I was surprised that it was so high. The thing is the distribution was not even. When they first showed up in this area in March 1972, some banks had 1 in 6 or 7 as T 2 and other banks were 0 out of 1,000.
