Picked up a Curl Base 2 1827 half today...

Another nice pick-up at a coin show today.

I think it's the common O-146 (R2) variety.

I didn't realize how low the pop report numbers are for this variety. In VF and XF, the price guides are just about equal, but I guess there should be a greater difference in price between them.

In VF-30 to XF40, should this variety sell for about $200 to $300?

It is the 146 version. In XF (which from the pics this barely makes--if at all) it should retail at about 150 to 175 dollars. It has been my experience that there really is very little if any premium for the curled 2 as compared to the square 2 untill you get into the higher AUs. That said, it looks to be a fairly nice coin and if you are happy with the price you paid then that is all that should matter.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

    VF-35

Like OKBC said, prolly a buck fitty to a buck sebunty-fy normally.

Doesn't look like it's been scrubbed, that's good.

Since this curled base 2 is a REDBOOK variety, it is in demand. I have been looking for a high end AU example for some time, no luck so far.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
