Somewhat Interesting Auction For A Raw 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle ...

Seller 760andrew333 sold tonight a Raw 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle for $503.00. See image below. At the very best , I see that card being graded a PSA 4. At worst, who knows. What do you guys think? Good buy? Bad buy?

It's tough to categorize any Mantle purchase as a bad buy

IF it does grade a 4 it's an 800 dollar card. IF it grades a 3 it's still a decent buy. less than a 3 grade and not a good buy

If that is a pinhole at the top of the card it will be a PSA 1. I see no evidence it was graded by GAI. What is the value of a PSA 1, I'd love to have one.

I'm not totally convinced that the card is authentic!

When I first looked at it, something didn't look right!???

Could be these old eyes playing tricks on me .... Anybody else?

Plus, what's this all about??? Did he crack this card out of a GAI holder to sell it raw??

<< <i> I'm not totally convinced that the card is authentic! >>

I don't have the eye like PoppaJ or some of the others for very old vintage cards, but I feel the same. The seller primarily sells raw and a few in GIA slabs. Maybe the card was rejected by GIA??? Either way, I can't see someone selling a Mantle card of that caliber that isn't in a PSA or SGC slab.

Listing it as graded by GAI was a mistake - he also has this one on ebay that's a GAI 3 and he has that one listed as PSA.

Probably an honest seller who just isn't real strong on details. He's listed some nice vintage recently.

Agree with Jim the giy made a mistake and left those details on the page when he went on to make
another auction(s) my problem with the raw card is why is it too not slabbed?

    Trimmed?

    recolored?

    altered in some way?

    Good for you.
  • The card doesn't have the appearance of being authentic. It looks like the corners have "forced " wear in contrast to a bright clean image.
  • I agree, something doesn't feel right about this card... If you look at the feedback, the seller has sold other PSA graded Mantles recently, so why not this one? Has to make you wonder...
