The better ones shouldnt go down too much, but the common ones should have a significant reduction in demand, although you wont see it reflected in the price guides
According to espn, he is on operation number 4 trying to combat infections from the original procedure. They also went on to say, it could be career ending.
Of course that is the worst case scenario but not out of the question by any means.
All that said, I don't see too much of a drop on his stuff.
Imo, most sellers will most likely hold off listing any of his high end rc's until things become a bit clearer.
I hope he can come back from this. I am a fan of his and have lots of his rc's
Well if the injury is worse than it appears all bets are off as it would be like Mike Vick cards, at first when the story broke it wasn't considered much of an issue and his cards didn't suffer but as more and more details came out his cards sank so fast it was amazing.
If more reports come out the knee needs another new ligament and it lingers into next year I can see some severe drop offs. I think his cards were overvalued anyway on the higher end so maybe they will just come back to normal levels. I can see SP Authentic Brady's selling for $400 - 600 and Contenders for just over 1K.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set

Like Mike Vick???? I think we have a huge difference here. Mike Vick never won anything...How many Super Bowls did Tom Brady win? (3 for those who dont know) I think Tom Brady will be thought of as one of the best quarterbacks of all time especially since he won 3 super bowls and was the most dominant quarterback in this current decade. He will not be thought of as highly as Johnny Unitas but he certainly should be looked upon in at least the top 10.
The other obvious reason you cannot compare Brady to Vick is that Vick is in jail. Not for stuff that society usually laughs off as being normal athlete behavior (drugs and Michael Irvin) But stuff most society finds deplorable, animal cruelty. If he ever finds his way back to the NFL he will never have success and his cards will never hold the potential value that they once did.
Tom Brady's cards will always be valuable and sought after. If this is the end of his career then yes his cards will level off as noted above. But to compare Tom Brady's card value to Michael Vick to me is just way off the mark.
All this coming from a Bears fan who really has no collecting interest in Tom Brady!!!! LOL
I think they'll plummet just on the basis that he'll be out of limelight for a while. This is where the speculators jump ship and with the true collectors remaining. There's a large Brady following, but not sure if it's enough to keep those lofty $$ numbers on his cards. Unlike Vick, Brady's next stop is the HOF if his career ended today, so there'll be another spike of speculator interest in a few years.
I think his cards will dip quite a bit. His SP Authentic and Contenders singles rose so much last season with success and will fall quite a bit with him not being on the field. This injury takes all the guys that flip stuff quickly out of the picture. If you are buying Brady cards right now, you are planning to hold onto them for a full year. The only people who are selling them right now are people that need the money. Any time a guy doesn't play for a full year, his cards are going to drop.
I would have to say that his cards will drop a bit and then level off . Now if you are refering to his auto rookies , then i believe they wont be affected to much because Tom Brady just doesnt sign much. Alot of superstar rookies drop a little or level off , try comparing prices a couple years ago to prices now on rookies such as Lebron , Crosby , Howard and you will see that in the modern collecting world they all tail off or level off a bit . The time to sell these rookies is when the anticipation of them being great is at its highest . One small example is Matt Laporta . He was said to be the next great thing so i got the card graded and sold his 2007 Bowman Sterling card for almost 175 dollars more then i paid and he isnt even in the majors yet.
A collector of all things Braves Always looking for Chipper Jones cards. Im a very focused collector of cards from 1909 - 2012...LOL
I was only comparing card prices not people. Vicks cards dropped slightly at first then when the word came out he was in deep doo doo the bottom fell out. Brady won't have the bottom fall out but I could see a 50% rollback just in 1 year especially if it means he won't be ready by 2009.
It is interesting how the FB HOF is much different than BB. A guy like Terry Bradshaw could never make the HOF with his career numbers in BB. Winning SB's is so much more important to FB voters than WS's is to BB voters. Brady has much better numbers than Bradshaw did but still if his career is cut this short would his SB's and last year make him a unamious choice?

I think Brady would be a 1st ballot hall of famer regardless if he comes back or not. Like you said Super Bowls are all that matters and he won 3 of them!!
I hope Brady makes a full comeback as I do for all professional atheletes. I would think his cards will be good investments for the future like all HOF players, but that's if you buy right and not when his cards are peaking.
