Help with first CRACK!

I'm going to submit some crossovers to PCGS. I'm ok with "cross at any level". Based on what I've heard from this board I should crack them out.

What is the best way to do that with the smallest (hopefully zero) chance of damaging the coin in any way?

Also, give me guidance if you think a crack out isn't smart.

By the way, they are ANACS new-large holder cracks outs.

Thanks!

Crackout has worked out better for me. But I've heard others say crossing is best.
So if you decide to try both ways, do the crackout first. That way if they come back with grades you agree with, you are all set. Otherwise if you cross and they fail to meet your grade, you will then have to crack and send back.

IMO you can go either way with ANACS. I've only cracked out a couple, but success either way.

the anacs are are easy as just twisting the holder and they snap apart
other slabs just use a set of dykes

Especially if a 1 point down grade will cost you sone money! You'll just hate yourslf in the morning!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

My advice would be to consider what the value of the coins are right now, what value you are comfortable gambling with (losing it all (say, bodybag) or gaining more), and then making the decision.

If the potential loss is large, but there is a nice gain to potentially be had by crossing them, try it in-holder first.
If you get them crossed, decide whether or not you agree with the grade. If not, send back and they will crack them out, re-grade (no lower than original grade), and re-slab.

If they don't cross, get them back, look them over again, and if you agree that they shouldn't cross, don't do anything. If you think they still should, and you are comfortable with the financial gamble (total loss of value on a coin that may not slab anymore as well as grading fees, etc), then crack out and send in raw.

    * yes, I know the coins will still hold some value even if raw, but depending on the coin, the look, the series, etc....it may, or may not, be much. Try cracking out a MS69 cent and getting it back unslabbed....if it's a modern, what do you think an unslabbed one would be worth? Whereas there are many classic coins that will always retain some value, just happens to be worth more when slabbed image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I have had lots of success with crackouts using wire cutters and snipping off an end of the slab then using a flat head screw driver to insert into the newly made hole and then twisting it. This usually breaks them cleanly along the seams of the slab.

Best to just go on and do it one way then the other, see which one works out best in your eyes.
