PCGS shipping policy question

I recently sent in two submissions together:

Quarterly free- a bust half that I felt had a 50/50 chance of being graded, but what the heck!!!! Value appx. $100 Came back BB

Free submissionn - three modern $5 comm.s. Value appx. $1000 to $1500 depending upon grades. Came back two(2) MS70 & one(1) MS69 - PCGS price guide $1765

The half came back in a nice box which had a PCGS blue box inside, the coin was in a foam holder enclosed in bubble wrap.

The three slabs came back in a stiff cardboard envelope, with the three(3) slabs in a safety mailer.

Given the difference in value I would have thought the shipping methods would have been exactly the opposite of what happened. Am I missing something?

I'm kinda surprised you receive the Half in a blue box to begin with since singles are usually mailed in the same manner as the three coin package.

Those envelopes are pretty tough so your stuff was safe.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • Maybe they should have an option on shipping - "if my stuff grades "X" please raise the insurance value". That way, you don't have to guess when figuring out the return shipping.

Value has nothing to do with it; the policy is based on number of coins shipped. I believe you're only supposed to get a box if the submission is for five or more coins.

I believe bodybags and coins that fail to crossover are shipped in blue boxes, as a rule.
