1956 Roberto Clemente Gray vs White Backs

Hi Guys, I could be off base, but why does white backs go for more money then gray backs? When gray backs are more scarce in the low numbers. The Roberto Clemente POP report is very low for Grays to Whites. The White POP is 2407 to 61 Grays. I would think there would be a higher premium for the Clemente Grays then Whites. Any help would be nice. I'm very new to the vintage card sceen. Thanks again Bobby.

PSA only recently started differentiating between the backs so the pop reports on gray vs white are not correct and never will be. Prior to the recent change to put the back color on the card everything was listed as a white back. That being said, the gray backs for the lower series are somewhat harder to find.

Jeff, thanks for the info. I just saw a Clemente white back go for $345 on ebay and I just picked up a Gray for $300. I was just curious on why the prices vary, but that's all on the buyer. Thanks again Bobby

the gray back should go for more money. perhaps the price difference had to do with centering or some other aspect of the card making the WB nicer than the GB

There is also probably something to be said for the fact that most 1956 set collectors are building a one-per-number set, without concern for the color of the back stock, so are unwilling to pay a significant premium when the more common back can be had at lower cost. That probably also goes for the collector who just wants a '56 Clemente for a player or team collection.
