.............., "junk platinum", "junk copper" and "junk clad"?

I recall hearing "junk gold" being used in conversation, but not very often.

scrap gold is pretty common. Old bits of rings and jewelery, dental gold, beat up pocket watch housings, lockets and the like are often saved because they're gold. It's all just scrap. I guess you could apply the word "junk gold" and mean the same thing.

  • Much of it is what is called "jewelry grade"-- not much numismatic but good for a ring or pendant-- I have two 5 dollar libs as cufflinks

    Here's some junk gold.
I bought a harshly cleaned Lib about five years ago and was blase about what I had or what it was worth until I found this board.

No problem, just have it sandblasted to take the shine off and give it a matte proof sort of appearance... image

It's "junk silver" and "generic gold".

Or, if you don't want to hurt silver's feelings, call it "bulk silver".

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Good idea but I did pretty good having an ESTATE SALE L@@K on ebay. Sold it to a dummy from
the other coast who was even more clueless than me.
