Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 10-22

Just like old times – 29 Mattes this week. Several added from Heritage, Angel Dee’s and BRWC. Average grade is PR 65. I was “talking” to a Mattehead who like many are looking for ( ie, can only afford) coins below PR 64. But it seems of late we have seen several PR 66 and 67 examples, and now a slight down trend to 66/65. You could still make a very impressive “Fantasy” Matte set with the coins listed below. Perhaps the 64’s and below will make a comeback soon.

Till next week.

  • It would be cool if someone kept track of all the offerings from each of the weeks to show # offered for each week for each year, grade, grading service, by dealer, prices, etc. as well as prices over time (especially broken down by dealer).

It's really a shame that all that valuable info that Bob has put together each week is really not accessible in any historically pertininent way.

I think most of the old post are accessible, but the purchase price would be the biggest missing piece of data as some were private sales, BIN, etc.

  • I'm looking for 65 browns with strong eye appeal. Two-toners are the ultimate find, but tough to locate, so I've opened up to good lustrous BNs, if anyone looks at a coin and it fits, please contact me, and I appreciate it.

WS, please take Andy's 1912 (gorgeous) off the list, as I decided to take it. I will try to get a photo soon to share. It's a blue/green toned (brown) monster. Also, I asked Brian to take my 1909 and 1911 BNs off that list. I had a moment of temporary indecision, and glad it did not cost me a coin. They are both "brown" if you read the holders. Works for me....

Even at 64-65, the coins are available, and collecting mattes can still be a blast. So long as the eye appeal is there. People tend to forget that a 65 is called a 'gem'. I hear "only" a 65 all the time, and laugh.

We are 'coin' collectors, no? Maybe 'label' collectors......
