TennesseeDaveTennesseeDave Posts: 4,809 ✭✭✭✭✭
But not as much as someone else. This is one of the few dates I need to complete my date set and I have tried to use an overdate when feasable. This one went from $167 to $330+ in the last seconds. It sure looks original to me.I hope a forum member got it.

Decent looking coin and for the price it was well worth it.

The surfaces look extremely mark free, and just the nice original wear along with clashes add to its appeal

Made outta chocolate, no doubt. I like the look - a nice coin and the $330+ figure seems to be the way things are going these days. Better luck next time.

There are a lot of overdates in the series and for instance instead of a normal 1819,I have an 1819/8 and a 1824/1 instaed of a regular 1824.
I am going to try to get an 1814/3,1818/7 instead of 1814 and 1818.

Does not look original to me. Stick to a TPG specimen.

Seriously, so are we saying a "TPG specimen" is always original? image

What we are saying is that a TPG specimen is much more likely to be original than a raw coin. Face it, most coins worth hundreds of dollars need to be encapsulated to realize their full market value. The trash coins are everywhere, and the coin doctors are quite proficient in their work.

Recommend buying them already slabbed is your best bet...

Coin looks harshly cleaned and re-toned. I can see numerous harilines under the toning. The OP was fortunate he was outbid.

Here is one that was cracked out of an NGC VF25.

Oh, I doubt you will be able to stop there. Overdates, Red Book varieties, etc. The progression of the disease is insidious.

BTW, she does not look to have original skin but looks reasonably well struck. I do not see hairlines but she may have been overdipped worked on in some manner. Must admit, I still like her. But, I did not bid on her.

That much meat in a PCGS slab is gonna fetch well over $330 too!
  • It looks good for a raw collection. A slabbed original coin with that much meat on it will sell at auction for well over $1000, so if you are on a budget, there is no way to afford a decent one. That coin would look nice displayed in a dansco. That VF coin pictured above is fantastic, and I bet that brings $500 at auction (slabbed of course).

These 14/3's are crazy money coins these days.

The coin looks harshly polished .In a dansco or not why would anyone spend 300+ for a cleaned/polished coin? Al

Yeah, we all know that if it is in a PCGS holder it MUST be original. Like these from the current Heritage auction.

    1809 AU-50

    1813 XF-45

    1819 AU-53

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Huh? I see no hint of polishing. Surfaces do not appear reflective in the images.

I could see PCGS buying them up just to get em out of the slabs. They wouldn't slab today.

    Jim,

Did you check out the rest of the auction? The entire run of busties look like this.

It is a lousy assortment, for sure. And the Heritage pics aren't very flattering either. Yet people are still bidding.

In my opinion you should be thankful you were outbid.
