How do you contribute articles to Numispedia?

Does anyone know how you contribute to Numispedia? If so,then how? If not, then why not?

Aidan.

That's my site. Unfortunately, in the five years that I've had it I really haven't been able to devote the time needed to it.

The one you linked to is the .com site. I loaded MediaWiki (the software that runs Wikipedia) onto it to play around with some features, but never really intended for it to go live as such. Just thinking out loud, if you will.

I am still planning on one day creating a site with these domains. I would like it to be more database driven than Wikipedia, with a detailed catalog and accompanying articles, but still largely user-generated. That's going to take a lot of work and a lot of time. I've delayed so long that even Krause has gotten something online in the meantime! (I really don't like their deployment and envision something wholly different for Numispedia, though the catalog is valuable.)

So, for the time being, the site's not taking contributions.

But if there are any experienced coders out there who would like to help get this project moving, please get in touch!
  • Eric,

I think a Wiki-based numismatics site is long overdue, in my opinion. MediaWiki platform is easy to maintain and use, as well. I would contribute some articles if it were to go live.
  • Roman,
The quality of the numismatic articles on Wikipedia leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the titling of articles is just plain dumb.I had written an article on the coins of South Africa, then some idiot split it into 2 articles,& merged the information about the 1923-60 pre-decimal coinage in with the article 'Coins of the South African Republic'.

There IS an alternative, which can be found right here.

There is a Real Names Policy in force, which means that only real names can be user names, just like on the Citizendium,to deter spammers.

Currency units MUST start with a capital letter.

Every banknote article MUST have a signature chart, unless such banknotes either have no signatures,or the signatures are handwritten & cannot be deciphered.

Every banknote issuer shall have an article written,& relevant articles linked to it.

Where a banknote issuer issued notes for more than one country,it shall be indicated,as in 'Banknotes of the Bank of Ireland (Northern Ireland)'.

All coin catalogue articles MUST have mint charts.
