1861 Indian Cent new piece small roll of the dice.....

Well I hope NGC got this right at AU 58. These pics are awful, but I figured between NGC giving it a 58, and the seller's 7 day return policy and his 100% positive feedback of over 400 I figured what the heck.

He had it listed as an auction starting at $124.99 and it did not get 1 bid. I was gonna bid but forgot. So after I realized it ended I emailed the seller and told them I meant to bid and if they would list it as a buy it now for $130 I would snap it up. So they did, and I did, of course taking advantage of the 30% MSN discount. So i land the piece for $91 shipped.

If I don't like it I will return, but for $91 and I need it for my 1861 type set I had to go for it.

Now I just need the 1861 Seated Dollar and that will test my resolve. The seated 1861 sells for way above what I normally purchase a coin for. Several thousand dollars in xf condition.

If I get one, I hope to have the set multi holdered by NGC.

O well we shall see.

The Northeast Coin sticker on the salb did not hurt either.

Possible but I think the odds are that it's a nice coin.

That is what I am hoping, and it really is a no lose situation, I just hope the grader at NGC was not builing model airplanes the night before. image

Well just came in the mail.

My pics are not great but I am happy with the coin. I think more of a AU 55 but it looks good with the rest of my 1861 type set. And for $91 after MSN rebate I am cool. I sent back a NGC au 55 to JJ Teaparty, I did not care for that Indian at all.

I am cool with this one. I will try and get better pics later. Off to work for now.

Not a bad coin, but not 58 by my standards. Probably 55 obverse, 53 reverse.

The price is really what matters, so if you are happy with it all is well.

Certainly better than the seller's pics! Nice pick up for a great price!

Weak strike.......although full strikes on CN cents are more difficult, they can be found with a little searching. I like to see a little more diamond detail than that. I currently have two CN cents, one is an 1859 in AU55 the other an 1863 in AU58, and both have nice full diamonds and feather tips.

This is what I expect an AU58 to look like.

Edited to add: ....but for the price you paid, you got a decent coin.
