    i think you are trying to compare the terms "countermark" and "counterstamp" and i find that in use they can be used interchangeably......as a side note i find that countermark is used more on non-US issues while counterstamp is predominantly domestic

    i believe that i once read that *mark would be struck obverse and reverse while *stamp would be only on one side (but i have seen so many diversion from this rule that it is hardly worth mentioning)

  • Countermark is used to denote an officially issued counterstrike.
    Counterstamp can be made by any old body.

    I guess the countermark would be the impression made by the counterstrike.
