    Jerry,

Between threads this is at least the third pot shot you have directed in the Rays direction. Do I sense a behavior of ENTITLEMENT in you? Oh yes I do. By golly, how can the World Series survive without one of the financial heavyweights in it image

I will be watching the series as will Philadelphia and Tampa. Who cares about you guys in Boston. Go watch your horrible Pats image

Dan, it's just a fact. Small market Tampa, and middle market Philly just won't carry the weight with casual fans. Sure, baseball fans will watch it, but Fox counts on the World Series bringing in the casual fans - and this matchup just won't do it.

I think Fox will still make money on it regardless, perhaps not on the World Series ad revenue itself, but as a lead in for other Fox programs like "24" which starts a new season in November...and they'll make added money there.

    1) Man Ram and how big his **** is.
    2) The come back red sox never say die
    3) LA and that game against the Dback that they just HAD to win
    4) Josh Beckett and his playoff form

Hats off to the Rays, they played a hell of a game. At least they didn't sweep the Sox, and didn't celebrate at Fenway.

Anyones game last night, Rays just came out on top.

I love that there are none of the usual "large market" baseball media darlings in the Series.

I love that Fox wet their beds when the Yankees and Mets missed the playoffs.

I love that Fox sulked when the Phillies took out the Dodgers.

I love that Fox saw their chance to have Chi-town representation go "poof" when the White Sox did the same.

I love that Fox peed their pants when the Rays won last night.

I'll bet the executive offices at Fox Sports feel like being at a funeral today.

World Series Ratings Drop As Expected
Game One off 12% without marquee teams.
By Ben Grossman -- Broadcasting & Cable, 10/23/2008 4:03:00 PM

Fox Sports’ airing of Wednesday night’s World Series Game One did a 9.2 ratings/15 share in households, continuing to prove the drawing power of major sporting events, but a 12% drop from last year’s Series opener.

The ratings erosion was expected for multiple reasons, including a relatively unappealing (except to staunch baseball fans) Philadelphia Phillies-Tampa Bay Rays matchup.

Last year’s World Series was between the Boston Red Sox – which Fox in a press release called “nationally familiar” -- and the Colorado Rockies. The numbers were, however, 15% higher than Game One between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers in 2006.

This year’s event also must compete for mainstream attention with the election and all the hype surrounding the country’s flailing economy.

Had the two teams that lost in the last round, the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers, made it to the World Series, Fox’s bottom line would have been a lot better off, potentially to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.

So Fox execs can’t say it out loud, but they will be hoping for Tampa Bay to win tonight’s game to even the series at 1-1. A long series will help Fox significantly in the wallet.

This is classic Jerry. He has never been one to leave a Sox season ender very gracefully.

I mean, WHO CARES about Fox ratings besides Fox?image And quite honestly, if teams like the Phillies and Rays can be picked apart because of silly TV ratings for a sport that WE ALL KNOW is a regional game then why even have these teams? That is where Jerry's yearly (if the Sox are not in it) crusade over TV ratings is laughably pathetic. Lets just get rid of the 20 or so teams that would help enable a low rated World Series.

WHO FRIGGIN' CARE ABOUT TV RATINGS AS THEY RELATE TO SPORTS? SPORTS CAME BEFORE TV, NOT VICE VERSA.

Sports is about competition, teamwork, and determination, not a friggin' media market.

God how I hate this viewpoint. And I'm a broadcaster.
