Die wear question...

Probably a dumb question & I'm not really sure how to ask it, but... If this is indeed die wear & using the "N" in UNUM as my example:

how & why does it appear "rotated" compared to the "underneath"? I mean...it's not parallel with itself.

  • Cool coin- I would guess (and I may be totally wrong) that it is die wear. It really reminds me of the drawn out stars that merge with the rim on late die state bust half dollars. They also appear to be "stretched" like the letters in "Unum" on your Lincoln.

    My guess is die wear or metal fatigue.

    Anyone care to educate me? The (2) "U"s seem nominal. How and/or why does the "N" appear "rotated" compared to the "underneath"? I mean...it's not parallel with itself.
