1802 Large Cent - anything new writting about it recently?
Working a coin show (MOON) yesterday and today, I am bewildered and confused for the "mad rush" to buy 1802 Large Cents. We had no less than 8 separate people ask to buy 1802 Large Cents. Normally, you only get asked a few times per year for that date. There is nothing too special about that date - there are much more unique and interesting dates (1793, 1799, 1804, etc) to wonder about. Talking to other dealers, several of them also mentioned several people asking specifically for that date.
Was something written just recently in a magazine articile or Numismatic News that I missed? I could see a run on them if someone or some articile was just published saying this is a "sleeper" or there is a vary rare die state, and people rush to get one before prices jump. I haven't heard a thing, and can't figure out why that one date is all of a sudden so important. We had a 1793, two 1794's and a 1799 all in decent shape that no one wanted to look at (okay, some did look at the 1799). We had three 1802's at our table, 2 in VG and one in F, and they all sold. One was missing the berry to the right of the "T" on the reverse. But I didn't think that made it all that special. I better study up on my early Copper.
Any insight here?

Very strange
Maybe it was a race to see who could find and buy the most 1802 large cents
(I wasn't one at the MOON though)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
