No It won't this is for my collection not to flip. If it's not a nice looking coin in the 69 range it does me no good. I don't buy fillers until I can get another one. I purchased a 1/4 W UNC and a 1/10 W Proof when they came out now I just fliiped the oreder since I've got quite a few 1/4 proofs and may go back and backfill the dates I need if Platinum stays low and if the real coins ever come down to just over spot. Everyone that doesn't collect theses or PM's seem to think you can get these around spot. That's very very hard even for the more common dates and you'd have a better chance at that buying the 4 pc sets than singles.
I purchased my first plats in 1999 off Ebay, they were 1999 1/10 ounce bullion and it cost a whole $42 each Really in 2002 I started building sets from coins I'd purchase for under bullion and was paying $90 to $125 for the 1/10 proofs.

So that seems, To seal the deal! there not gonna mint anymore then!! I guess i better buy some then. I ordered 1 Tenth ounce last night, before they went dark this morning.I tracked it. It's backordered, Till nov 5th. So i'm pretty sure, that i will get it!
SEE the BULL!! BUY the BULL!! BE the BULL!! Do your homework first. And, you will learn alot!!
The 1/10 oz UNC is gone for good. Not only is it marked not available, it has been added to the No Longer Available list. That means it's permanently gone.
i ordered a quart proof and a tenth proof along with some Uncs. you guys think the proofs are a winner or should i toss them back and get another quart unc??
<< <i>I just made 30 of them available for someone. Still have a few but don't feel as good about the potential here. Believe me though I hope it works out for me and all of the people on the board. It is fun reading all of this. It will be nice when we know the final numbers. >>
The opportunity here is to sell the majority of your holdings BEFORE the final mintage is known. The risk of holding is that you may or may not have the lowest mintage. Selling before the mintage is known gets the buyers "speculating" cash. A lot of people like the thrill of the gamble.
I think you bailed out to early. IMHO. I would have kept the order in for a while anyway because you always have 30 days to change your mind.
i ordered a quart proof and a tenth proof along with some Uncs. you guys think the proofs are a winner or should i toss them back and get another quart unc??
It doesn't matter. The proofs have a larger following and are more attractive, but the uncs will probably have a lower mintage.
If you are just in it for the speculation, a quick flip on the uncs is probably a better bet.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
while i agree it's all up in the air right now about sales/minatges, this issue (unc-w) has great potential for sub 2006-w mintages. >>
I agree with that. I learned my lesson with the 06's though. I held too long and left a lot of money on the table. Thank God for the run up in platinum earlier this year. It let me get out with recouping a little upside. Having said that, the posted numbers for the 08's could very well be less than the 06's , possibly considerably so.
But...... If I were a betting man with a long term position in these, I would imagine that the 06's will be lower than the 08's given the great sell off of 08. But we may never know the real numbers. The availability 20-30 years out will be the true gage.
again, everybody has thier spin on how to handle a deal like the 08-w uncs,
IMO, the numbers on 1/10's (sales to forum members I follow) plus prior sales, seems to indicate a single coin sales number of around 1750, or somewhat less than 60% of 07-w figures,
if thats the type of numbers we are talking about, plus no more than 1000-1250 4 cn sets, we are below 06w unc numbers.....
we could be talking sub 3000 1/10 mintage and just under 2000 mintage 1/4 and 1/2 's on the uncs????

As stated in the original post, my intent was to give a heads-up to anyone here that wanted these coins. I have made connections with some good people on this board; I've also seen gripes about "speculators" buying up all the available mintage forcing the "true collectors" into buying at inflated prices on the secondary market. My own self interest would have been better served by NOT posting this information.

Except for the fact that just because it does not look like a perfect 70 I doubt that the mint would reopen sales of the items that are "No Longer Available" to fill orders with returned coins.
This just makes it harder for collectors that did not get the news that they were available again. (Re: 1/10 th oz unc plats)

Anyway, as of 12PM EST 1/14, here's what those despised unc plats are doing on eBay:
Tenths: 13 BIN, 15 total .......... BIN $220+ Quarters: 12 BIN, 14 total ............ BIN $399+ Halves: 13 BIN, 18 total .............. BIN $809+ $100: 6 BIN, 7 total.............BIN $1645+
Yes, at the time of that post, the best BIN on the tenths was $50 higher. You are correct.
They were actually $130 from the mint.
The point of my post was that the available supply of these is drying up....and the prices at which they are available is increassing....
I probably hit a temporary high point for the tenths on the last post, but the $100 and the $50 are going up (now, no guarantee for future performance) at 10% per week.
I think the $200+ plus price on the tenths drew out some more holders of the tenths that bought them at $130....Trust Me, there can't be that many of them....
The volicity of price increase in the aftermarket for these 2008 w unc plats is increaseasing....as would be expected with the supply diminishing...
FB made a great call with this thread. I even boosted an order of mine based upon FB's call when I read it for the first time. And, boy am I happy I did!

I didn't get a chance to get a $10 plat unc before they sold out, but I did get ten $10 plat proofs at $150 each. That has turned out to be a very good purchase considering they are now selling for $375.
My opinion is that you and I both know there aren't as many as "reports" indicate out there. There are big discrepancies in the plat unc-w numbers this year that have to be resolved. The USM is dragging their feet on this one.
Anything is possible with the Mint. Buy why? Why are they dragging their feet on this one issue? For some reason, they haven't updated the numbers that are in obvious need of reconciliation - but they aren't doing it.
Maybe Obama will fix it?

for the tenths.. assuming they are the same coin in your last two
posts.. isn't that a 59 dollar drop in just the time frame of your two
posts?
assume they are 185 from the mint, i think i read earlier..
how in the world are you supposed to make money once you factor
in ebay/paypal fees and shipping costs???
i must be making a mistake here. clear it up please?

from the mint. that allows a tidy profit.
