Double Eagle Question?

I have a 1907 Saint Arabic double eagle with the edge lettering ******E|*PLURIBUS*|UNUM*****
Do all of these have the edge lettering? I could not find any information on this other than the similar 1908 no motto and some high relief have it.

Yes. They all have edge lettering.

They are all supposed to have edge lettering and it is supposed to be along the upper edge of the coin when the obverse figure is upright. However, since many SG $20 are in tombs that prevent viewing the edge, there might be some edge varieties or even experimental lettering that currently goes undetected.

There is an MCMVII high relief with plain edge that is a legitimate minting error – the press operator forgot to put the edge collar dies in the press for the 3rd strike of the coin.
  • Thanks for the clarification!
