Anyone here into Russian Commemoratives?

I'm tired of the high prices and lack of variety in US coins. So I'm starting to collect more world coins.
I just bought4 1993 Silver 3 Rouble commemoratives...

Heres what they look like ... (note this is not my photo - this is one I found on the web).

  • Take a look at Austrian Commemoratives also, they make some pretty nice looking stuff IMO.
That Russian one you got looks pretty cool!

I don't see why, many affordable and great looking Russian material around.

Swiss for commems! image But yes, I like Russian pieces as well. Particularly gold and late 1700's copper.

That's true of classic Russian coins prior to WW II. The modern proof coins from the 1990's can be had fairly inexpensively.

I have a few of these modern proofs - all bought for a small premium above spot.

I guess that's the good thing about the recent over-proliferation of NCLT... now there really is some nice stuff out there! image

Here's another Russian piece, 1992 3 Roubles commem. I don't really collect Russian, just pieces I like the designs of. I also have a couple of the Austrian pieces.

    Austria 5 Schilling

Most of these you can pick up for just a couple of bucks at local shows or fleabay.

Being a collector of Tsarist Russian and very early Soviet coins, I can back up your assertion. Prices have skyrocketed to the point at which I gave up on the Soviet stuff, and the Tsarist stuff has slowed considerably, it has been over a year since I bought one, and from a seller in Romania of all places.
