Grade and rate my bust half. Opinions welcom

I am trying to learn about grading bust halves. I realize the Rim ding would probably prevent it from being slabbed, but grade and remark away please.

She's a bit on the unkempt side....dirty dirty girl!!!! image

I like the perfect radius 'die clash' above the date...wonder how that happened??

Edited to change die crack to die clash

I'd give it a technical grade of ~vf25,and I like em crusty, but that one is dirty!

Is that a metal detecting find? Obviously not cleaned though!!!

    Nice clashes and cracks too.

See, this is the stuff I'm talking about. Where are clashes and cracks?

And yes, she is very, very dirty. But I for one, prefer them that way to very very scrubbed clean. image

Do a search for die clash on this site ,you can get alot more info from some very knowledgable folks here.

Several clashes I see,(nice pics by the way),are the line behind her cap to her hair are from the eagles wing,

the banner clash already noted,on the rev that line from under the 'u' in pluribus is a clash, and I see at least 1 crack from the eagles right( facing)wing tip.

Looks like O-107,R2.You better be careful, these coins will grab you and make you sell other stuff to buy more.

    Yeah,I like em crusty too!

I think your coin was probably totally encrusted at one time and partially cleaned(not scrubbed) and probably needs to be soaked in acetone to try to remove the rest of that crud.If not for the rim dent I say it would grade a VF-30.I am currently looking for a nice 1814.

be very careful removing any of the crud.

The color of the coin underneath will most likely be different.

  • Hmmm...Is that coin from The Mohawk Valley Hoard?
