    Excerpt Reposted for Night Shift...........

Examples of items that will generally be removed:

Items that bear symbols of the Nazis, the SS, or the KKK, including authentic German WWII memorabilia such as Olympic medals that bear such marks

Items that were owned by or affiliated with Nazi leaders

Music or films that promote hatred and racial supremacy

    Holocaust denial books

    Crime scene photographs

    Morgue shots

Letters and artwork from notorious murderers

Electric chairs and related capital punishment items

    ............

Examples of items that may generally be listed:

German coins and postage stamps (canceled or otherwise) from the WWII era regardless of markings

WWII memorabilia that does not bear the Nazi or SS markings

Books and movies about WWII or Nazi Germany that do not contain propaganda, even if the Nazi symbol appears on the item

War documentaries or documentary photos portraying victims of war or violence provided they do not contain propaganda

Items of historical importance associated with acts of violence against public figures

    ........

  • Can't believe this is even being questioned. Are American schools this inept?.. Perhaps events like this spurned eBay to ban Nazi and other hate group items?

No roof, seats, toilets, water... Certainly one-way train trips to Hell. If it were me, death would have been welcomed. And this is just the beginning of their ordeal.

Since when does ebay always enforce their own rules?

<<< Items that were owned by or affiliated with Nazi leaders >>>

I've seen items such as this a number of times on ebay - of course they were likely all fake.
  • I bought this matchbook on ebay a few years ago, a great WWII propaganda piece.

I visited Germany in 1986, my friend was stationed outside Frankfurt for 3 years while in the army, and he is also a WW2 aficionado like myself, so naturally he took me to some WW2 sites in Germany. I stood on that podium as the stadium is still there and is a tourist attraction. The thing that struck me is that stadium was a lot smaller than it appears to be in Nazi propaganda films.

    Good idea Mike.

    On the topic of Mussolini...

A gentlemen and vet from my hometown was in the crowd the day the people hanged Mussolini; he has an amazing pic of himself standing in front of the gallows with Mussolini, his mistress, and number 2 man lined up with nooses around their necks...a second picture of him in front of the lineup with the three, and others, hanging...and a final picture of Mussolini's body being paraded around like a rag doll. If I remember correctly, it appeared they were attempting to behead the corpse. Amazing photographs though, it was quite an honor to have met the man.

Ebay lets stamps and coins from Nazi Germany pass, but not so much the other stuff. I have seen Nazi militaria at gun shows. That's where to get them.

I spent a lot of time in Germany, and while the coins and stamps of the Nazi era are sold in all types of venues, other Nazi era stuff can't be. Actually, the USA is more lenient on Nazi militaria than Germany.

You guys seem to be open minded about these objects from that past. However, keep in mind that not everyone shares this view. A lot of the items at the gun shows are reproductions since the genuine stuff is very rare and expensive.

There are other venues to obtain Nazi era objects. I know for a fact that paintings by Hitler sell for a lot of money at live auctions....who would have known. He secretly liked or enjoyed Disney cartoons and he has painted some Disney figures like the seven dwarfs in water color--they looked like a good match to originals from Walt Disney Company. He painted well in water color and his subjects were alot of the times buildings of Austria and Bavaria--things you can expect on postcards.

Hmm, I wonder why Nazi/Hitler stuff would be controversial.

I support your right to sell/buy whatever you want. But I suggest you have a conscience and put dignity ahead of dollars.

God, I am sick and tired of the Hitler issue. Would Ebay give a damn if I put a series of Pol Pot trading cards up for auction?

Well , the fact is that Hitler was the most influential person on history in the 20th century, and I don't think it's really debatable. The repercussions of Hitler's actions continue to be strongly felt today and will be far into the future. Again...I believe it's actually good to know and understand what this POS was all about, so that his atrocities can never be committed again. Unfortunately, on a smaller scale, with some names mentioned, atrocities still have happened since WW2 and with the scumbag leader of Iran, according to his public statements, he would like to create another holocaust.

Here's the Hitler & Mussolini piece I sold. It was an authentically signed document by Mussolini where he signed on the bottom half, and I made a custom signed photo by cutting the top off and printing the picture and quote around the authentic signature. Turned out really neat.

Here are a few pics. of the album they card came out of. The cards are not glued in the album (see closeup of the back of one of the pages)...there are slots cut in the pages and the card corners slide into them so all the cards are in fantastic shape. This was an entire album for the '36 Olympics and I only had 4 graded. There are 15 pages to this album.

Here is a scan of the two Owens cards I had graded ...my new scanner has much better scan quality. Not sure how they only got PSA 5's but you be the judge. Also included two more raw cards from the set that feature Owens as well as what the reverse of the cards looks like.

  • So we're at the point in political correctness where a person's name - like Voldemort's - may not be mentioned? Oy vey.

The best way to make sure there are no more Hitlers is to educate kids about what murderous thugs they were, not turn them into men of mystery.

Well, I think I am going to put up the cards on ebay this weekend. What category would you think I should list them in? They are from an Olympic set. Should I also list in some type of military category??

    Thanks-
    Claude
  • storm888storm888 Posts: 11,701 ✭✭✭
I would go with just the olympics.

Adding the military might increase traffic a bit, BUT it could attract a complainer
that would set the $8.12 per-hour marooooons loose on you.

Also, the bots may look at military differently than they do some
    other categories.

It's probably safe in either/both cats, but a takedown will earn you
a "policy violation strike" that can be used against you if you have
    future problems.

you could stick em under ww2 medals and ribbons?
  • stevekstevek Posts: 30,064 ✭✭✭✭✭
put it under "non-sports cards, mass murderers"
  • Those cards are very desirable for Olympic collectors.

BTW - the stadium in the photo is not Frankfurt, it is Berlin.

However, if ebay is to ban racially bias items, then items with FDR might not make the grade. Read on: (from Wikipedia)

    Jesse Owens
    Main article: Jesse Owens
Jesse Owens's participation in the Olympics was controversial because of his race, at a time when segregation and discrimination against blacks were the norm in much of the United States. However, once in Berlin, Owens was able to freely use public transportation and enter bars and other public facilities without the difficulty he would face as a black man in the United States.

On reports that Hitler had deliberately avoided acknowledging his victories, and had refused to shake his hand, Owens recounted "When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany.” He also stated "Hitler didn't snub me—it was FDR who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram." While Hitler did not personally congratulate Owens, he did not in fact congratulate any athlete (including those competing for Germany) after the first day, in accordance with IOC guidelines that he should maintain Olympic neutrality. Hitler did, however, leave the Olympic Stadium just before another African-American athlete, Cornelius Johnson, was set to receive his medal.[6]

German crowds adored Owens, and he forged a long-term friendship with German competitor Luz Long.[7]

ecrater.com is likely the best place to sell
    controversial items.

BIN only, but no unreasonable poofs; and
    you can accept checks/MOs, googlecheckout,
    or PayPal.

  • Did Ebay tell you that they canceled the auction because it was murderabilia? I tried selling some True Crime cards that had serial killers, mass murderers and mobsters and my auctions were canceled because they said that you can't sell murderabilia. But there are 68 auctions running for Charles Manson garb.

Virtually ALL such poofs are done after rats squeal.

The Hitler cards should be exempted - along with
other WWII items - but they are not.

Stamps with Swastikas and Hitler on them ARE exempt.

    ........

Modified titles prevent many poofs, but they cut down
    on traffic.
