Need help understanding body bagged submissions

I got back 20 tokens today most graded very nicely....as some have seen
and 4 came bag in a bb. 2 of them I understand and the other 2 that are imaged I am confused
about and need help to understand.

The one on the left saysImproperly cleaned and on the right says environmental damage.
Both are brass.

They both look the same to me

They both seam to have the same surfaces. Except for the one on the right, the reverse
has almost an orange peel look to it. No texture that I can see. It almost looks like the toning to me.

Are they referring to the color of the brass, texture or......what else

I took 2 different views to give you a better idea.

Stefanie

The one on the left looks like it was dipped but improperly rinsed. Thus the colorful iridescence, bright blues and magentas.

The one on the right has a speckled texture on one side that appears to be some form of corrosion.

That's as good as I could possibly do with photos and ignorance.

not to make light of your situation, but I'm just as confused as you when it comes to PCGS bodybags.

I must admit, sometimes the bodybags are obvious, most of the times however, you're scratching your head wondering 'what in blazes are they seeing that I'm not seeing'.

The coin on the left appears to have been cleaned in the fields and then retoned. The coin on the right has rough, speckled surfaces which is evidence of corrosion.

    Hey Stef,
The R Pitkin looks a little funky. The colors are not natural and the way
the "splash" on certain areas of the piece yet not on others is off.
The Mittnacht's looks to have surface damage which shows as
    the toning "spots"
    My thoughts at least.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • First I have to say Thank You to Stefanie for getting me interested in medals. I really didn't need another type coin to collect. I can see the damage on the medals, but really didn't think about medals body bagging the same as money. I have a few medals I have purchased and wish to have them slabbed and just started looking into available services. I was under the impression that PCGS did not slab medals-is this not correct? I thought NGC did although I haven't found this on their web site. I will have to take a closer and more critical look at my medals before I submitt them if BB's are going to be an issue.

It may not be politcally correct-but I use the words tokens and medals pretty much the same way.

    PCGS does not slab these.
ICG, ANACS or NGC would be fine

  • Don't all coins continuosly undergo envirinmental damage as soon as they leave the mint? I understand the cleaning issue but not damage. All coins are damaged? Not slabbing them for damage makes no sense.
