Should the Mint Clandestinely make 484,000...

2009-S VDB's in the orignal composition and release them into circulation? Maybe a press release or news conference 3 days in advance.

While there is virtually no chance of this happening, imagine the surge in publicity and interest in coin collecting this would create! Plus it would be cool actually trying to find one in circulation. Like a blast from the past.

My thought for the day.

    I'd go one step further.

Have the mint sell a package. Coin dies, planchets and a screw press.

Let these 2009-S VDB coins come from basement coiners. Let them enter circulation from the bottom up.

Let the errors and varieties flow forth.
Create a numismatic snarl that will generate lots of study for years to come.

Why not create a Coin and Currency set that features a $5 "Porthole Note" intaglio print (as shown in scan), a Lincoln commemorative silver dollar, and a 2009-S VDB, struck in original format, and limit that set?

  • Or they could do a promotion similar to the 2000 Cheerios Sacs and cents, but instead having the 09 S VDBs cents taking the place of the Sacs.

These could be placed in boxes of Fruity Peebles along with Yap stones (which take the role of the 2000 Cheerio cents).

If the Mint would like a poll taken on this I would be glad to put one together for them.

Geez - no comments from the MPL guys?

Standard MS + DCAM proof issues and a Matte Proof issue. And PCGS could do a 1st day slab special.

  • If they do, they won't send them to banks. They'll sell them on-line for $50 or so each.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
