I think he's had a few minor problems recently, but he's still made a few public appearances in the last year.
  • Happy birthday John!

Great coach, to be sure, but those teams were dirty as all heck. Even Bill Walton has admitted that the players were getting paid. The root of the Bobby Knight/John Wooden feud was that Knight thought (correctly) that UCLA was cheating like crazy and getting away with it.

Yeah, they say the same thing about SEC football, and we all know that that's not true either. image

This seems like something Lance Armstrong would say.

No Lance would say the other thing I was thinking which was that every single [biker] college in the country was (and is) cheating. I have no way to know who cheated more or less but they all cheated. The SEC takes great pride (and they should) in their run of national championships in football. Imagine if that was one school. Impressive.

You have no way of knowing that they all cheated- as a lawyer, I'm sure you know better than I the difference between 'knowing' and 'suspecting'. As for Wooden, I don't have any issue with acknowledging that he was a fine basketball coach, but the praise should stop there. Or, if not, then it should at least stop well short of declaring him a model citizen and moral beacon in the world of college athletics.

No doubt and this is a sports message board and I am trying to be lighthearted here. Just having some fun.

To a point I agree with you about Wooden but I think he really was a model citizen and moral beacon... later in life. This is an opinion with no legal substantiation your honor.

I agree with the 'later in life' part. I think he made some real mistakes in the 60's and 70's, but I think he atoned for those as he got older.
