It will be a homecoming for him.

That's a lot of Roy Williamses on one team. If they could somehow convince the UNC basketball coach to replace Wade Phillips they'd be set.

Do you Cowboy fans think that this will drive interest in Roy Williams RCs? Even with TO?

I just went to NFL.com and the headline read, Adam Jones will be suspended for 4 games for the incident at the hotel.

Romo, Felix Jones, Pacman will al be out about 4 weeks. That's pretty bad

Also the punter is done for the year with a broken foot.

Yup. When they got Bledsoe a few years back his cards took a big jump up.

Untill he actually started playing I should say image

    Dallas gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th pick.

That seems like a lot for a #2 WR. Jerry must think Roy will put them over the top.

I never say this, but the Lions did really well here. Even though he's only had the job for two weeks, Mayhew has already made one more savvy football decision than Millen ever made.

  • Im pretty sure Dallas did NOT give up a 1st

    I heard 2 2nd rd picks

I agree. Jones was never good at scouting or drafting talent.

That was Jimmy Johnson's gig and that is why the team was a dynasty when Jimmy was at the helm.

Jerry is just a monkey that just so happens to be a rich business man.

It doesn't matter who they pick, it's still a great deal. You can't pay two receivers #1 money with a salary cap, so either he or Calvin Johnson had to go. If you don't trade Williams now then he walks at the end of the year, because you won't be able to pay him what he's worth on the open market.

Absolutely agree. After first round QB busts like Chuck Long, Andre Ware, and Joey Harrington. As well as only having nothing to show for the 1st round picks in 2002 (Joey), 2003 (Charles Rogers), 2004 (Kevin Jones, Roy), and 2005 (Mike Williams), I have no faith that the Lions will do the right thing.

Just in case you guys don't go over there, here is the link

  • Man that is a lot to give up for Williams. Lions cleaned-up huge on that deal.
  • Matt just read my self on the Cowboys home page. Hopefully he's worth a 1st and 3rd

great move by Detroit if Dallas did give up the 1st and other picks. Dallas needed a fast WR opposite T.O. and they definitely didn't get that.

So Jones gave up a first round pick?

I disagree. They didn't necesarily need a fast reciever opposite TO, they just needed someone better thatn Crayton to take some of the double coverage away from him. RW will do that

    As per ESPN.com:

The Cowboys will give up a first-round pick in 2009, plus a third- and sixth-rounder that year for Williams and a seventh-round pick in '09.

  • Great underutilized wide receiver. On the right team he's a top ten NFL wideout. Fantastic trade for Dallas.
  • Detroit had to move him because you know they will draft another first round receiver next year.image
Actually this is a good sign that the new GM is going to make positive changes in Detroit.

  • The Cowboys had evaluated the upcoming draft and felt that there would not be a WR comparable to Williams available in the draft, at least in the estimated range where they would have been selecting. They essentially gave the Lions their 3rd round pick (and swapped their 6th rounder for Detroit's 7th) in order to "trade up" and draft Williams with this years' 1st round pick.

The Cowboys also picked up another selection; because of the Adam Jones suspension, the Cowboys will receive the Titans 5th round pick in this year's draft.

    Also:

P Matt McBriar is not out for the season, as was stated by another poster. He is out 6-8 weeks, but will be back for December as well as any playoff games.

RB Felix Jones is projected to be out two weeks (not "at least four") with the hamstring strain.

Wasn't thinking of the Calvin Johnson factor.....if not for that, I don't ever think one star player is worth several draft picks. Of course, I liked Mike Ditka's trade for Ricky Williams. I mean, lets face it. You will never get 32 star players out of a draft....unless it is 1995 (half joking there).

Yep, Jimmy could judge talent and set the Cowboys up so well they won a Super Bowl two yrs. after he had left.

I really hope this trade pans out.

This was taken from the Cowboys website:

"A Monday MRI revealed the team's punter did suffer a fractured bone. Initially, it was said McBriar would be out six to eight weeks, but upon further evaluation, if the injury does not keep him out for the remainder of the season then the Cowboys likely will by having to place him on injured reserve to clear room for a healthy punter."

Either way he will miss the rest of the season.

As far as Felix Jones goes, he was originally listed as out for 2-4 weeks. Being that hamstring injuries are usually the "nagging" type, we won't be back anytime before 2 weeks

Interesting. Matt Mosley on local radio this afternoon said McBriar should be back in December; not sure who to believe there. However, you are right about the hamstring issue with Jones. With the bye week coming up after the next three, I would expect they are aiming for him to return at Washington.

It's really all speculation with injuries. You never know how fast certain guys will respond to treatments and rehab.

Kinda like TO when he played for the Eagles. He came back from that "broken ankle" way faster than anticipated to play in the superbowl.

We find out soon enough though image

Will this be Detroit's Herschel Walker? Second best move of the year for the Lions after canning Millen. Maybe this club CAN move in the right direction.

Doubtful. In the Walker deal with Minnesota, the Cowboys gave up five (1 player, 4 picks) to get 13 (5 players, 8 picks).

Understand, this is coming from a Colts fan (who happens to live in the Metroplex), but I think Dallas made a good trade. They received what they were looking to get with their 1st round pick in the next draft: a WR to compliment Owens, who also is young enough to be their number one option when TO is gone. They gave up an additional 3rd rounder and swapped a 6 for a 7. Only time will tell for sure, but it looks pretty savvy on paper.
