Brazil 200 Reis question?

I found this in one of my hiding spot's, Not sure if it is silver or nickel, it has a distinctive sound of silver, and even though i thought i had found it in Krause, I'm not sure, It has the date of 1870 on one side and 1871 on the other? Anybody seen or have one of these? I don't think it has much value, I wonder if the Holey man has one on his vest? or if he want's one?

Thank's, ozzysdad47

Looked it up on my Diga-Krause...
I was surprised to see how large that piece is.
No size info was listed but the picture shows it
being (my guess) somewhere near quarter size in hand?

Ya DigaKrause's biggest problem is screen scale...
However if your coin is half dollar in size and only 200 Ries - to me that just increases the likelyhood it is made of nikel .
I could be wrong, but I'd bet against it, the the pic was the same design as yours.

It's a copper-nickel coin, which replaced the previous silver issues. The "decreto de 5 de Setembro de 1870" was the currency reform that led to the change. This particular type is difficult to find in BU, but it's common in low grades.
