Looks like a proof from the photos. It should at least have a PL designation.

Looks like a nice coin but I find it looking very un-natural being that white. A 136 year old piece of silver should have a little color- I mean it's obviously been dipped but then again you knew that when you bought it. Sorry I don't mean to be too harsh it's just that I value originality in a coin.

I don't have it in hand yet. I really liked the cameo contrast.
Does PCGS put PL the label for seated halves?

  • WOW !!! From the pics it seems to me like a 65PL. I would give my entire meagar collection for that baby !

It likely has some light patch of hairlines. These low mintage dates from the 1880s are frequently seen with prooflike surfaces and occasionally cameo devices since the die pairs used really had little chance to degrade during striking of the coins. Additionally, with surfaces such as these it is quite easy to find imperfections that might limit the grade.

Good info, thanks TomB. I am hoping for minimal hairlines, but some are expected with the MS64 grade.

Does PCGS label these seated halves as PL?
