trying to get my pictures to look more like my coins

I am getting perfect details but feel my pictures are lacking the color of the coins.

Any ideas as to what sutterspeed to use? Should my F number (ie 4.2) be lower or higher? Should I use the zoom? It seems when I use the zoom the speed goes from 1/125 or so down to 1/30 or 1/15
is that better or worse?

What are the ideal settings? I am using a Nikon 4500 with a nice optical zoom, in sunlight and a photodome but I am not getting the colors of my coin. The images seem washed out and the colors on the coins are dull in the photos.
I seldom check PM's but do check emails often jason@seated.org

I'm not sure which settings you need to use, but make sure you are using Reveal Incandescent Bulbs and set the light type to incandescent. I think your auto setting should get the exposure right.

Sunlight seems to wash out color on coins.

I'd play around with a couple of cheap flex arm lamps, move them around until the color and detail start to show up. you might need to slightly angle the coin toward the light to get the most color. I use reveal halogen bulbs also but that is just my preference, I have had similar results with just about any incandescent light I have tried.

Usually a faster shutter speed is better. Helps keep any shake or movement from pressing the shutter away.

I usually use something around F8
