with this economy folks may be taking what they feel are decent offers while they can get them. sometimes it's good to know you have a sure price than to potentially get screwed at auction close

I dont blame him...I agree....noone wants to sell a $200 card for $10.....if someone makes me an offer, I would pull the plug too.....I NEVER would have done that in the past, but the current economy and the way Ebay has changed it's policy has made me rethink the way I do business!
PS - I am sorry this has happened to you??
  • Good Day,
I will end an Auction early for a good sale every day, no problem. Always.!!!!!!
    Thanks

The auction in question was listed as $49.99 opening bid with a BIN for $100 and the person still closed auction early. Then WHY-TF even list it? Not like this was something he could retire on. I was also interested in other PSA stuff he had for sale.... but i'm not going to bid on his stuff just have him pull it out from underneath again.. So, again, he lost a customer. That goes for everyone that did this, this past week. They can choose how to run their auction and i can choose who i want to bid on...
  • Should have hit the $100 BIN then.
  • sounds like you should have pulled the trigger earlier image

As a seller, I can't turn down a fair offer on a card. Having said that, I will always ask the buyer to become the high bidder before I cancel the auction so there are no hard feelings from the current bidders.

Why not shoot him an offer then?

    Marc,

just curious, for what price were you hoping to win the card?

I dislike the practice as well, howver Ebay allows for it so I usually just
do what carew states abd do not bid with that seller again.

Unless of course I can cherry something from him.

Isn't that what an ebay auction is... everyone putting in their highest offer and the high bid wins? Everyone shouldn't have to send email offers to the seller for fear a card will vanish. Thats what bidding is, it is making your best offer!

I think Stone was right, I have really noticed alot more Buy It Now and fixed price listings versus traditional auction listings. Hope this isn't the future of ebay because that would basically be the same as buying from over priced dealers at a show without the ability to trade or talk one on one.

The 35 cent fixed price special has certainly moved many high dollar card sellers in that direction.

We utilize the "Best Offer" option, and offers are plentiful lately, ... most are reasonable ones, too.

(a couple of misconceptions here)---- It was a mint Movie Star set from the 30's, not just 1 card ----there were no offers made on the set. The set did not sell. The seller cancelled my bid and ended auction early.. Why would any SMART person hit the BIN for $100 (yeah that's the ticket, i'll just pay frikkin double!!) when i could have won the auction for my opening bid of $49.99--image So for the Dorks out there--look for my BIN auctions at $200 and i promise not to end them early, so hit that little BIN button as soon as you see my auctions!! (sarcasm)

Same here I used to run almost all auctions now especially if I have multiple itmes I jump all over the Fixed Price with Free Shipping and have been getting better than average. Had 4 of an item last week that I can ship for about 4.00 sells for 32.99 easily thats 14.00 per item profit. I sold all 4 in less than 3 days at 42.99 with free shipping.

I would not assume it did not sell....in fact, I imagine it did sell and that was why it was removed.

If it did sell it sold for under the BIN.

Either that or the seller thinks (or was told) 100.00 was too cheap for that set.

  • I am sorry this happened to you.
  • Is it not possible that this seller has a retail card shop and may have sold it there? Seems like ending the auction would be the right thing to do if you have already sold the item locally.
  • Carew29Carew29 Posts: 4,025 ✭✭

Now the guy has a retail shop???? That's thinking a little far outside the box. If he did...why not list everything like LEVI at about 500% over bookimage
