1986 Topps Baseball Vending case...strategy...

Picked this up a couple weeks back -- kind of an impulse buy (actually hoping to pull that elusive Nolan Ryan PSA10)...

My question is, when going thru non-vintage cards, that have some premium for PSA 10s, what sort of strategy would you suggest. I've been going thru and pulling HOF (mostly), but see that even commons at PSA10 can go decently.

Some of these are for PC, but hope to sell some as well. I'll end up with ~15 of each card -- was wondering what you guys might suggest.

thanks!

I'm looking for that elusive Carlton Fisk PSA 10. Let me know if you come up with one.

The reason you see PSA 10's going for decent money is because you have to submit 15 of one card, on average, to get one back as a PSA 10.

Don't screw around with grading '80's commons.

That case might make a nice end table.

Just speaking from my area of expertise, for a long time the Ozzie Guillen card was a Pop 0. The first on that hit the market sold for over $20. The last ones to hit didn't make the min bid of $20. A PSA 9 goes for 5-10 bucks. A key rookie in the set (obviously a weak class) is not worth the gamble of grading.

Population counts of 176 - 9s and only 6 - 10s spells big bucks for now!

That means that out of the 182 cards sent in for a possible 10, less than 4% made it.

Not sure how many Ryans you'd pull, but let's say you pulled 15... your chance of pulling only (1) 10 is .6 image

Of course, the example is just taking into consideration the Nolans that are actually submitted, not found.

Looks like 4SC's auction went from $79 to $1000 to $2800 as a result of a Registry War between 2 bidders!

    Good luck!

Sorry if I dont get offended by a comment coming from a "bayou" extra in the movie "Porkys"

How's it going by the way ?
    Ready for the game ?
got your overalls pressed and cleaned for the game ?
  • That Ryan is not centered top to bottom for a PSA 10. You could break down your case and probably come up with a nicer Ryan but good luck getting it into anything higher than a 9 holder.

The Over/Under on PSA 10s you will get in an 86 vending case is 1.5. I'll take the under.

Agreed. The front and back 1/4th of each vending box will have ruined corners.
