<< <i>If an Ebay seller charged that kind of money, that the OP states was charged. A lot of posters here would be ripping that seller apart. >>

I'll certainly agree with that statement but then eBay sellers aren't in the same league!

    Or are they?

So often, on a $1,000 or $2,000 coin, the seller is "expected" to pickup the costs for insurance and the feedback and DSR's reflect that.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Boom
The value to you is what you could recover from the USPS in the event of loss based on what YOU could provide as proof in support of your claim. PCGS does not own the coins YOU do. The USPS does not care what grade that PCGS does or doesn't give to the coins. The point is that if the coins get lost on the way back to you, how much loss are you willing to accept? Don't claim more loss than you can prove. If you get a significant monetary upgrade just do your homework first and see if PCGS will work with you. Ask around at the USPS to see how they would handle it.

Its not rocket science. If PCGS downgrades a coin or bodybags it, it does not necessarily mean that the USPS will do the same in the event of a claim.

If it's so irrelevant and immaterial, why then is ebay almost FORCING sellers to ship for FREE!

If it's so irrelevant, why do tight aces sqwauk at $3-$4 S/H WHICH PAY PAL TAKES thereby
causing sellers to sell at an even greater loss as PayPal is STILL going to TAKE their cut as will Feebay?

Glad you brought that up! Here's a twist. Next time ebay puts forth this crap about FREE S/H, get on Live Help or
better yet, get on the Community Soapbox & say, "OK, I'll gladly ship for free if TPGs lower their fees and NOT require Registered Insured to & fro, that Pay Pal gets at best, 2% and how about ebay let us list for FREE and
only take fvf of a flat 3%!"

Think that would fly? First instinctive reaction - NO! BUT - IF ebay & PayPuxx did so, eBay would be back in Black so fast it would make their heads spin!

    Amen?

Getting back to shippping charges and the comment by doogy, A lot worse actually. NGC will actually ship lots together, PCGS won't

I have submitted on multiple forms were the submission numbers were changed to the same number as the first form and lines were changed to #21, #22, #23, etc.
These were then sent back together, saving on shipping.

It has been awhile, and submission rules sometimes change (at times it seems to depend on who you talk to), so I would check with customer service before doing the same.

For ONCE we agree! In fact, I'm really not sure we've actually disagreed. Somehow words etc get lost or misinterpreted over the net! I agree with what you say HERE!

    Bajjer,

I am wondering what kind of insurance we can take on raw coins going to a TPG?
Say someone inheritated some really nice coins and a large amount of insurance is taken on shipping them out to the TPG.
Coins are lost......no proof of purchase price.....no proof of what was in the package.....
    YIKES, collector is SOL?!!

    Serious question.

    Augie

I have NEVER been asked for proof of what was in the package before the postal clerk accepted it, but if you can't document the value with a receipt then it would seem that an appraisal or two from a recognized expert would be in order. Consult with your postmaster. If you lie about the contents and its eventually found within the postal system, you could be looking at fraud charges.
