Should I be nervous about selling to APMEX?

I have a couple of $10 PCGS gold eagles to sell and I figured APMEX would buy them....but I'm nervous about sending my goodies off without getting any payment first...should I be worried?

Well, did you already talk with them via phone or e-mail?

  • Yea, they said they wanted them and made an offer...but I'd have to ship em without payment first...I know they're legit, but that just bothers me.
  • I've sold to Apmex a few times in the past and have never had a problem. Checks came as promised
It sucks shipping and awaiting payment but if the price is right.....

Well, I've shipped coins to dealers for them to buy without having payment first and never had a problem....in fact I just did it this week, but I've never done with APMEX. I;m sure you'll be fine with a well known company like APMEX...especially if you have an e-mail confirmation or at least the name of the guy you spoke with on the phone.

How long did it take you to get your check?

APMEX is a member dealer of the C.C.E. No chance they would risk their position there by defaulting on a minor transaction like this.

You would probably do better on the BST forum and you would get paid before you ship the coin. Just a suggestion.

    "...should I be worried?"

You should only be worried about receiving a low price.

I would not be worried. However, if you have reservations, you can just sell them to a local dealer and have cash in your paws instantly. You might lose a few pennies on the deal, but if it will make you more comfortable, then it is probably worth it. image

  • Nothing to worry about. The only think I can think of is that 2 X $10.00 coins will likely be below our $1,000 minimum.

Interesting that AMPEX would answer this question. I think that the reputation that you have created through this forum should comfort or scare the OP with the forum's AMPEX customers. I agree that AMPEX is certainly large enough to service this transaction, but to mess up would be a disaster for them. Many of their customers contribute and read this forum.

Every time there's an APMEX thread someone inevitably calls them AMPEX the entire time. image

I think it's great that so many in the numismatic industry know about this place and contribute. It's great to see a question get answered right on the forum by the guy who would know image
