I first thought early reeded edge on a Capped Bust Half as I had owned one that looked just like this. I have always thought that there must have been store or shop saloon owners that would have taken a little silver or gold off the edge of the coins that passed thru their hands.
Imagine how much they could have accumulated doing this with silver or gold. I guess if I had lived in the 1800 I would have done it!
