I am a king when it comes to paying stong premiums for coins but I would need a kings ransome to be able to purchase that one and a court jesters sense
I just don't get it. I know the seller is a consignor, so I'm sure that is not his selling price. But that price is ridiculous, and for obvious reasons is not selling.
I've paid a premium for toning before but not 50x the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That toning is 100% NT. I have seen that one on eBay for a little bit now and agree it is overpriced but it does have that make an offer option. I'd venture to guess it's a $200 coin to the right person.

You can say that over and over on coins like this. You will never convince me. A whole gaggle of 'experts on toning' on this forum would be unable to convince me. I believe PCGS slabs AT coins, so the presence of plastic is unconvincing to me. (poof)
I suppose if one had a whole collection of coins like that, it would fit in.
But looking at my collection, I can honestly state that this coin would look really weird compared with all of my more 'typical' coins.
In my opinion, there is something about colors on coins which makes folks lose their mind.
That coin is 100% AT.... no way in hell did that occur naturally.... I have achieved this coloration three different ways.. in short order. Anyone who believes that is natural needs a long session in metallurgy and chemistry. Cheers, RickO
IMO it's been to the doctor. Toning source at 8 o'clock (reverse) but on the obverse it looks like 7 to noon, with some extra juice in the noon area. Colors flow over the devices w/o real difference to the field (e.g., inside of o in god, B of liberty). Margin of 2ndary blue/green rather sharp. Not sure what holder/environment it could have been in in order to produce the pattern, if in an album or even a roll wrapper (machine margin) one would expect a different pattern. Perhaps in hand it looks "better". The color progression is appropriate, which may have convinced PCGS to call it good. Then again, my experience w/ them is that they are not that good with color judgment. Not sure I've seen the holder margin thing from 12->1 before.
