I thought Paypal would not do this?

Had a buyer buy 5 different items from me, she was not happy with one of the items and filed a SNAD claim for the one item. Well Paypal is refunding her the FULL amount paid for ALL the items. This is why if a buyer wants to return something you MAKE them RETURN EVERYTHING.

She clearly states in the dispute that she was happy with the other items just not the one and she is only returning the one. I called Paypal and they told me they make no designation between different items in a dispute and will refund the amount in full on ANY SNAD claim

Does the PP transaction-details page LIST the five-different items?

  • Yes it does and she states three times in her complaint she only wants a refund on the one item that was for 13.65 they are giving her the full refund amount of 66.78 when the items are returned to me. I have talked to 2 Paypal reps and a Supervisor and they all told me that if a buyer files a SNAD they will issue a refund for the entire payment.

What if she re-sends payment for the four items she was happy with? Could you then get reimbursed from eBay for the one she didnt want?
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

My PP guru says that the only explanation she can think of is:

The buyer did NOT request $13.65 in the claim form.

The buyer DID request $66.78 in the claim form.

  • She can resend, but not many buyers are going to do that. In order to get my fees back from Ebay I have to file a mutual end transaction on her, but the way that it is worded from Ebay it sounds like if they agree Ebay will give them a strike and suspend their account so they don't agree to it and I get nothing and I cannot refile on the other item.

The main thing I am showing is in regards to a topic here a couple of weeks ago where many said that Paypal would not do this and the seller should have just refunded the one card there was a problem with not demand both items be sent back.
  • It shows in the dispute where she requested the refund for 13.65 and in responses she states it is for the one item not the whole purchase. She was mad because I wanted EVERYTHING back just to prevent this from happening she just wanted to send the one item back. She had already left 4 positives and a neg for the items before even filing this or contacting me about the problem so naturally I am playing hardball on the matter.

I know the thread you are talking about.

That was mostly a discussion of issuing the partial refund inside
of the transaction-details page. And, NOT to issue the partial
refund through the "send money" button.

A "send money" partial refund can be double dipped by a scamster.

A partial refund inside of the TD page is credited to any subsequent
    refund awarded to the buyer.

    ................................

In the dispute/claims form the buyer is asked "what they want."
If they enter the full amount shown on a multi-item TD page -
and are only complaining about one of the items - the refund
would be based on the amount the buyer entered in the "what
    do you want" section.

(what they want = transaction amount)

If the buyer will not cooperate - is a scamster - the recourse is
to either refuse the package (not a good remedy, but a good
delaying tactic); OR, accept the package and tell PP that the buyer
did not return all of the itmes that were refunded.

PP has a list of buyers who are scamming in a serial fashion.

An adverse decision can be appealed.

A denied appeal should be reported to the BBB in San Jose. PP
will contact the seller and make a "courtesy refund."

Takes time, but it has been working.

    ....................

PP does have a working-group that is doing all of the BBB complaints
    from buyers/sellers.

If PAYPAL sent me the whole refund and I am the buyer , I wouldn't even be running around like this. I would do the right thing. The buyer likes most of the items, so why doesn't the buyer just send the proper amt. of money to the seller and forget this whole complaint process. PAYPAL does seem very tough to deal with. I have a basic question=== If a buyer wins 3 seperate auctions on 3 Willie Mays cards for $100, $100, and $75. The buyer usually makes 1 PAYPAL payment for $275. Don't even tell me if he returned the first Mays that PAYPAL would send him $275. I usually invoice my buyers for the total they won over a 2 day period or so. Should I not be doing this. When I buy a couple of auctions from the same seller thay usually want 1 payment also, not all seperate payments. What's going on.

    ........

This may be a bigger issue than I currently believe it to be.
I searched the PP boards and did not find the EXACT issue.

    That's what Leias is saying.

Something is not right with the way the PP people are
    understanding this issue.

That is what they are doing right here.

I did finally get a reason for it since I said if all items were returned I would be happy to refund in full they are requiring her to return ALL items not just the disputed item. Since she left feedback first before even contacting me I feel this is accecptable. Even though she has said she wanted just to return the one. If I get them all back then i am happy if I only get the one item back then there will be an issue.

Why did the buyer file a SNAD claim in the first place?

    edited for spelling

  • She claimed the item was not new. I never said it was it was an opened action figure that is very hard to find. I stated it did have some wear from play.

Did she contact you first or just file blindly?

edited to add: sorry, I just reread your post where you say she did not contact you prior to the neg and filing.
