Value of 1955 "Bugs Bunny" variety Franklin halves in BU?

I have two of these. One is blast white and looks MS63-ish to me. But I'm not much good at grading Franklins and it could be a slider for all I know. Luster is certainly consistent with a BU coin.

The other has the prettiest pastel grey "gunmetal" sort of look, with pinkish undertones. I think it is probably MS63-64. I like the toning on it because it is evenly distributed and it doesn't kill the luster, which cartwheels nicely beneath the toning. Though it is primarily grey, the toning, with its hints of color and light, unobtrusive quality are really attractive to me. I usually like my 20th century silver blast white, but this is an exception.

I know for certain I would never be able to capture this with my scanner, and probably lack the skills to do it with a camera, so there are no pictures in this thread (yet, anyway).

Is the "Bugs Bunny" variety worth any kind of premium? I mean, I know it's not exactly rare or anything. But Ben has prominent "fangs" on both of these coins. Since the variety is not listed in any of the references I have, I am at a loss.

I know enough about Franklins to see that the 1955 is a somewhat better date, and that's about it.

  • 1955' are a semi key date. Bugs Bunnies can usually be had for around $25-40 bucks for MS-63/64's....more with FBL's. The '55's are common for Bugs Bunny varieties....other years, are much more rarer.

Thanks. I reckon I have thirty-ish in these. Maybe 35 in the nice toned one.

I dunno if they are FBL or not. I do not think the white one is. The toned one, well... it's close. But I don't think it's quite there.

I always had a tough time telling FBL on Franklins and FB on Mercs, and never cared much, to be honest, though of course one has to check if one doesn't want to be too badly cherrypicked, I suppose.
