MS66BN..........who has one?

SwampboySwampboy Posts: 13,159 ✭✭✭✭✭
No, this isn't a WTB.
The pops show about 50 Lincolns in 66BN. I can't recall seeing one posted here. Any members have one?
Seen one? Just curious.

Feel free to post a 64 or a65 or a nice raw BN Lincoln to keep things moving along.

    I wish I had a nice looking 1951 in 66BN, but I don't. image
  • Plenty of IHC have made the cut, but few Lincolns. IDK why.

    I don't have any.

There's a 1909 PCGS MS66 BN on eBay right now with a BIN of $2,995.00.

  • I currently own four early Lincolns in 66 BN. I sold two others last year (both 09P). They are truly rare for any early date, but 1909 dated coins comprise 16 of the 50 total population, making the others that much rarer. I can't explain the Indian cent enigma either. I've seen a few of them and they do not look as lustrous as what would qualify as even a 65BN on a Lincoln. When I see "66 Brown" labeled on a flip in a dealer's raw Lincoln inventory, I always chuckle. They have no idea how tough it is to make a 65BN, let alone a 66BN. Others that I know of: Eliasberg's 27D made a 66BN and the 16D in 66BN (very nice coin) sold recently at auction for about $3,000. I'd love to see the 12S, 14S or 25D.

With total population of 50 we managed to have 10 accounted for or pictured in this thread.

Yes, a Brown Cent in MS66 is an esteemed grade.

Hopefully there will be a 67BN someday, although not likely from PCGS

Here is an ICG 66BN that I will try and cross someday:

image A true rarity with original mint bloom.

    Should have kept it.
  • I've got a 1931D MS66BN NGC but it's buried (I mean buried) in a SDB. If this thread lives I may get it, but like most of the others posted here , it's not really brown. It's dark so it won't make any Red grade but there are purples and oranges, making it (and some others here) more attractive than some RD or RB coins.

    Thanks for all the replies.
I came across CoinKing's comments re: the possibility of a 67BN and thought it should get included in this thread.

    Question re: possibility of a 67BN. From the Q & A Forum

Maybe this bump will motivate mcgrover to post his 31 D 66BN. image

Great old post, thought it would be fun to revive it and add a couple pics.

From the ones I've looked at, it seems to take perfect surfaces, or super clean surfaces with monster frost or bright rainbow color to make a Lincoln go 66BN. Here's two mint set toners from my collection in 66BN (note second one says 66RD, an obvious mechanical error):

I spent a minute looking through Teletrade archives, other than several 09 lincolns, they have only handled two other lincolns in 66BN in the past 12 years. Both of those had bright rainbow color. I might try to copy the images tomorrow and put them up here.

Are there any more out there, I'd love to see them.

Coppercolor, the 1957-D says MS66RD on the label, what's up with that?

I haven't seen a nicer BN 15-S than this one. So well struck that it has a doubled profile: image

    Paul,
Great question. I believe that's what PCGS calls a mechanical error, which means it got typed in or entered wrong. I gave it to them at the Baltimore show to review the color and have it properly browned. The representative looked at me sideways as I tried to explain how the coin had more value properly attributed at BN than the almighty RED. I gave up the argument and just asked her if it looked red. Then she used the words "take it out of the market" but I don't think she understood my motives - she's so used to everyone clamoring for red.

    Leeg,
Great to see the 15S again, it's like a family reunion. It absolutely tickles me to death that you are so fond of the coin, thanks for flashing an image again.

I wish that I had a good image of my PF67BN IHC.
  • Brown (actually blue is nice too) is what color old copper should be in my opinion. Nothing like a lustrous dark brown coin. They are simply stunning in my opinion, I'd take it over a RB/RD anyday of the week. Luckily for me, most people seem to disagree. image
