Wins Shares are a fine stat to evaluate a baseball player's overall performance.
They are certainly not perfect, nor entirely objective, however, usually interesting.
Total WS, each league
2008 AL = Mauer 31, Youkilis 29, Morneau 29
2008 NL = Berkman 38, Pujols 35, Beltran 33
For the pitchers, of which I feel WS are less effective, than for a position player,
NL leader, Lincecum 27, AL leader, Lee 25
