  • Tampa just announced that they'll take the tarps off of the sections in the upper deck for game 6 (if necessary) and all games following for the postseason. This should squeeze in at least 5,000 fans if my memory is right.....it's been about 2 years since the tarps were first put on.

It's about time! I hope there actually is a game 6, but the Sox have to wake up!

I'm not doubting you guys (see 2004 ALCS), I'm just hoping the Rays aren't either! They need to keep the intensity up. These extra seats in the upper deck should help (more noise).

The seats are mostly obstructed view because of the catwalks. When we go to games we normally sit in the Upper Deck and work our way down to the lower level outfield seats by the 6th, but I can remember me and my little brother climbing to the top of the Upper deck back before they put the tarps on, and you couldn't see about 2/3 of the outfield. If you were on the first base side you'd see the infield and right field.....from third, you'd see the infield and left field.

  • Many teams have lost 3 in a row.

Heck, even though on paper the Rays are 10x better then the Phillies, there is still no given in baseball.

Baseball is like the stock market, it's all about momentum, and which side of the 8 ball you're on.

The Rays are 10x better then the Red Sox, that we are seeing, as for them being 10x better then the Phillies
    lets hope so.

    Steve

    Good for you.
  • Question: Is there anything more satisfying in the entire sports world than a playoff game in Boston (regardless of which sport) where the chowda heads are watching their team lose -- and whining with every pitch, every basket, or every call from an official?

Here's a great marketing idea for any Wine Maker: Call it Chowda-Head Whine (and make it with sour grapes). On the bottle, there will be a picture of Fenway Park, with a bunch of fans booing an umpire. Although nobody would drink it, imagine how nice the unopened bottle would look on your trophy shelf!

image I guess I should expect you to get so satisfied with a Playoff loss in Beantown! What else could get you excited in KC? The Royals? image The Chiefs? image
  • Red Sox fans do not boo their own players the way they do in Philadelphia and New York.
They will get on the umps, that's for sure.

And thanks winpitcher for following me around these boards. I'm flattered

That's about the funniest thing I've read on these boards all year. LMAO
  • *** What else could get you excited in KC? The Royals? ***

Sorry to disappoint, but I've lived on the east coast for my entire life. I did (and still do) think that George Brett was one of the very best players ever (taking into account his ability, his character, and his performance in big games).

I've never been to Kansas City. Although I should be ashamed to admit it, I have been to Boston (including Fenway Park in 1983, Yaz's final year). Yaz had class -- his hometown fans had gas (and lots of it).

Disappoint? I couldnt care less what you think of Boston. Sure George Brett was a great player no doubt, as far as you being ashamed to admit that you have been to Boston thats your problem- Understand though that ALL fans have class and gas so your generalization of Boston and its fan base is about as wrong as you thinking that your opinion holds much water in this thread image

    Yeah, what Perk said!!! BOOYA!!
Also does Mr. Brett fan say who his favorite team is, or just which bandwagon he jumps on?
  • "Also does Mr. Brett fan say who his favorite team is, or just which bandwagon he jumps on?"

Well, I don't really have a "favorite team". Instead, I have "players" who I root for -- because players have been moving from team to team pretty frequently in recent years.

But, if you held my feet to the fire and insisted that I pick my favorite team, I guess my answer would be whatever team is playing Boston. image

Oh, BTW, would one of you Boston fans send a note to the Red Sox front office and ask that they allow Kevin Youkilis to go to the bathroom before the game? When he bats, doesn't he look like he's straining to hold it in?

  • << <i> When he bats, doesn't he look like he's straining to hold it in? >>

When he swings, doesn't it look like the pitcher's neck is straining while watching the ball fly out of the park?

YAWN. In other words he is just a fairweathered bandwagon jumper. Not much else to this little spat so lets move along..
  • "When he swings, doesn't it look like the pitcher's neck is straining while watching the ball fly out of the park?"

Hmmmm, I believe the correct pronunciation would be "... fly out of the pock ..."

Hey perkdog: Wouldn't the Boston pronunciation be "... bandwagon jumpah ..."
  • Oh good Lord, wouldn't you know that the BoSox twin (that wreck "edmundfitzgerald") would jump in with a particularly clever remark. You are a man of few words Eddie -- but those laughing icons sure do add a lot to the thread.

Fair enough! You did get me there image

  • Steve,

I get a kick out of "edmundfitzgerald" and "perkdog" because it's so easy to get them fired-up and on the defensive. I suppose I should cool it with the anti-Boston comments for a while. image

Anyone else feel like last night's game was Game 4 of the '04 ALCS all over again?
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Must have been me , I turned the game on in the 7th inning.

    Steve
    Good for you.

  • << <i>Anyone else feel like last night's game was Game 4 of the '04 ALCS all over again? >>

It sure did feel that way. In 2004 we had absolutely no answers for the Yankees. Every inning was just another nail in the coffin.

Funny thing is that if we didn't blow game 2 of this series, we'd be one game from clinching, but that's baseball.

They'd never admit it, but Fox Sports executives thank you. They have to be desperately rooting for the Sox.

ill have to watch whole game next time
  • I was enjoying the game last night until about the 7th inning. Then the signal being transmitted over the cable got all hosed up -- it was soooo screwed up that it actually appeared as though the Sox were scoring runs and eventually won the game.

I called my cable provider today and complained about the bogus data that was being transmitted. They assured me that the problem will be corrected by Saturday evening.
