Silver Eagle die scratch or die crack?

I purchased this silver eagle at the flea market yesterday for a few dollars over spot. At first glance it appears that this coin has a long scratch in the upper right. However, the line is a RAISED line. I searched this forum and other websites, and from what I can conclude is that this raised line was the result of either a die scratch or a die crack. Could you experts verify if my thinking is accurate? If it is a die scratch or crack, what kind of premium if any could I expect regarding it's value? I appreciate any help that you can give me. Thanks.

I could be wrong but it looks like a crack to me since I would expect a scratch to not have evidence of the devices within it as your's does.

Of course, you should know the difference since a scratch would be incused while a crack would be in relief.

i am also going to guess a die crack. it would take a lot of force in
an odd direction to scratch into a die like that.

No expert, but it does appear to be a die crack or scratch since it is in relief or raised, and not incused.
I would think that there would be be a premium for some folks.

Judging from the lighting angle, I'm still with crack since I know that the "light" top side of the R is in relief and the top side of the crack shows the same lighting angle.

That coin could be worth some money.

    Anything weird on the Reverse??

Cool die crack of indeterminate premium.

I'll guess a crack based on the Y area and the split there as well as the apparent extra material around it....

Also, the stike looks "funny", very flat on portions of the robe. Do you have a pic of the reverse?
  • Thanks for everyone's imput so far. Here is a picture of the reverse.

That die crack is more that what you are seeing. It goes all the way to Libs right sandal and then
it starts up again at the 2 in the date and runs to mid sun. Really cool find. Oh, is that normal on the
reverse to have an eagle feather over the shield? I don't know these very well (actually not at all!).

  • Thanks 19Lyds for reposting the picture of the reverse. I'm just getting the hang of things with using Photobucket and posting pictures on this site. Now I know what happens when I move pictures from one album to another.
