Positive thread: Now that we're in a Coin Recession, I'm glad my dealer did ____ during good times t

The boards today are filled with gloom and doom, as we come to grips with the state of the economy. Although no one will admit it, I think we are either at the beginning of a Coin Recession, or one is looming just on the horizon to gobble us up.

However, let's have a positive thread for a change. I think the best dealers are going to ride out this little bump in the road, and the worst dealers will fall by the wayside where they belong. In this light, please fill in the blank below, and feel free to toss an atta-boy to your dealer of choice, who personifies the way coin dealing should be done. I think the dealers who treated collectors right when times were good, will be more likely to hold on to those precious clients when times take a turn for the worse.

"Now that we're in a Coin Recession, I'm glad my dealer did ____ during the good times, which will allow him to keep my business when times are not as rosey."

Let me give it a try:

"Now that we're in a Coin Recession, I'm glad my dealer did pay off his Ferraris during the good times, which will allow him to keep in business when times are not as rosey."

I am no expert in the coin "market."

I am a collector who spends what most people would consider to be a considerable annual amount on coins.

I look at my quarterly statements and see lots of red.

That said - I spend on coins not from my need - but from my discretionary income, with retirement and savings coming first.

I have to think that the "big guys" are doing the same. As long as their jobs and incomes are in tact - I see no reason why this market is going into a "Coin Recession"

If anything - there may be a move to tangible assets as financial instruments become less trustworthy.

Maybe I'm in a fog (a real possibility), but I think there has to be a problem within the coin market to cause a coin recession. If one of the big 2 TPG's went under and did not keep their guarantees; or they began to radically change standards and slab counterfeits, or in some other way make the "market" lose confidence in their ability to liquidate the coins, then there will be a coin recession.

I don't see that yet, but what do I know...

These comments are for the classic coin market. Moderns are a different case...

What are you basing the statement about a coin recession on?

Are prices of some coins dropping? I have picked up a few bargains lately, but I don't know if I'm getting lucky or if the prices really are softening. As an example, I was surprised to pick this one up today... Ebay Link
