The 49ers retired Steve Young's jersey number yesterday and inducted him into their Ring of Honor. Congratulations #8!
He was introduced to the adoring crowd by his close friend and former teammate Brent Jones, who called Young a "brilliant field general" who "could destroy you with his left arm and then could turn around and destroy you as well with his legs.

"It's a lot of emotions about a lot of years," he said. "Great times. Hard times. Significant times to me, growing up. I said to Jerry" — legendary 49ers receiver Jerry Rice — " 'It's when you were at your best.' It's not that my life isn't sublime now and great in many ways. It was a significant time in sports history as well. There'll never be a time like that again. I'm just grateful."

"Bill Walsh told me many times that anyone who came to this place was very lucky because they now had a platform to see how good they could be," Young said. "I really appreciated that."
