My slab gouge is finally gone!

I had a badly scratched, really gouged PCGS slab probably from being in my pocket with keys
and I was very sad, being I just got it. This was no superficial scratch.

So I got out the PlastX and worked on it. To no avail.

Then I did it over and over, maybe 50-60 times,
and the deep gouge actually came out.

In the past I gave up after 1 or 2 times,
but I think a deep mark in the plastic takes
repetition and a strong thumb,
I used a microfiber towel ( do not use a rough towel, or paper towel) and
a drop or 2 at a time, and repeat.
The skin also came off my thumb.

Moral of the story, small amounts of polish, and repetition.
I am happy again.

I actually got a light burn on my finger from PlastXing a nasty scuff out of a slab. It was worth it, though.

I use that PlastiX stuff too and it's great on PCGS slabs, doesn't seem to work as well on NGC though, maybe I just need to sacrifice my thumb too..

I believe a replacement holder from PCGS is $5.00---plus postage/insurance, of course.

I have a slab shining callus on my index finger from shining so many.

NGC are the bane of my existence. Very tough to shine. PCGS, ANACS and early NGC are much easier.

Don't forget that you have to pay postage and insurance both ways which can get expensive.

Thanks for the post. I picked up my first container of PlastX yesterday at the local auto supply store. It worked wonders on about 15 PCGS holders with scratches and abrasions. The product works well with a microfiber towel of the type used for eyeglasses and optical equipment.

I use plastX with a terry cloth from the same autoparts store I got the goo at. Works like a charm.

does anyone get good results on scratched NGC holders?

My thumb can only take so much
