1989 Fleer Baseball Wax Box - Error Box? Live Break!

It's just as the title says. I bought this off eBay. It is supposedly an error box. We'll see.
By the way, I know I've seen it before, but is there a good list of the error cards available from this set? I would appreciate it if someone would be willing to post it.

Perhaps, but you can ask nicely for scans

This thread has a ton of information regarding error cards in the set. Good luck with the break.

That Griffey looks a lot better then 70/30
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
<< <i>Supposedly this box came from a case marked with the number 83441. Does that have any significance? The seller indicated it meant the case was packed on the 344th day of 1988 during 1st shift. >>
that is 100% correct. It's my understanding that the FF was discovered in mid Jan 89.

Amazing they were still making 89 then. The new cards use to come out in Nov. or Dec.

<< <i>That is a moronic statement. I still have the empty case I busted two weeks ago and it has the same numbers. But, my boxes had the black scribble Ripken and 2 variations of the Johnson. If that statement was correct, why would my boxes supposedly released at the same time as yours, have a corrected variation of the FF card and 2 different corrected variations of the Johnson? >>
That is what Donovan told me about those numbers too.
I've read several different accounts from people who have ripped cases and their results always went along with that theory. The only thing no one knew is what date the black box started printing.
Where the hell is Donovan anyway??
<< <i>The rack cases I bought a few months ago (before Donovan told me about the numbers) both had numbers on them that started with 91XXX. Those cases contained ZERO Ripkens of any kind.

Sizzler/Family. Had my minute on the internet. Gotta go. My free time is when I'm at work in the day...odd. Anyways I'll try to get back tomorrow.
The cases have printed numbers or codes if you will. What they are 100% I do not know. In my profession they are called lot codes. When I set them at work, I dont use numbering that could be linked to the date as I deal in produce and everyone wants the product that was ran today. I have been told and it is safe to assume they do represent the system as stated earlier. I do not like to share access to this info with people I have no control who views it, but I will for the following reasons.
The codes could actually represent the packout date. But there are many discrepencies. I used to record all my pulls and these numbers but eventually tossed the info and the will to track my results. Due to the overwhealming inconsistencies, I felt the "formula" was as flawed as Fleer was in '89. ( You can quote me on that.
Red and Blue inked rack cases. Why? Results of 3 versions (1 lack of) from Red have been pulled by me in blue as well.
Some has 5 numbers 83442 = 1988, 344th day of the year, 2nd shift
What about the cases I have pulled with 6 numbers like 904412 (made up number but one of my last cases had 12 for the shift.
I have pulled different versions from the same legit sealed case. Others have as well.
Ted Taylor ( Had a title for Fleer, I forget what) said they only printed @ Fleer in 1989
A person told me they printed at Outlook Graphics in 1989 as that was his town then,
Outlook Graphics has info avail. on the net that says they printed for Fleer in 1989
My opinion- The inked numbers were packout dates. Why the different versions in the same case? 2 printing locations and onecutting/packing facility. You'll get pallets of sheets to be cut/packed at a later date built up in inventory.
There is also many other factors involved. Backfilling.
I know of a sure fire way to open a case that was fresh in 89 and reseal it. Reason- You grab a box and see if it's a case of what you want. FF was $100, $200, White Scribble was $250 (in a ad) DDie (err Registration off) was similar in price. Pull it, bust the case, if not backfill.
Though I think the Fleer mixing runs is more of a cause.
The whole Marlboro thing, Black corrected w/FF and Marlboro variety with scribble...different printing locations or printing presses.
To help prove this...though I cannot publically, as my buddy needs it and mine is miscut too small to grade and I would prefer to have all my versions slabbed- I have a card that was made right after the FF but it's not as it's characteristics are missing from following variations. Meaning this card would be obvious on other cards. Its' not. There was either more than one printing press at Fleer, safe to assume? or printing at Fleer and Outlook with possibly more than one prees at one or more of the locations. For those following, it is not the other card I have previously refered to that I cannot disclose due to it's ease to counterfeit nature.
To those following thinking they can cash in, if I lose that card on ebay, recognize it to be the same later in life when offered to me, I wont pay you a inflated price. Had to throw that out there. Sadly it's happened.
I have a Whiteout at BGS. Has the jagged line. Only found (so far) on a BBox variation. Why did they WO over a BBox? Version Hype? To use as a redemption card for a saw cut or FF that was sent in?
This "part" of it I dislike, as many looking to profit try to use it to their advantage. Asking about these codes, numbers on wax packs, cello, racks. I used to keep it coveted but it doesnt matter aymore IMO. It could help, but I have found cards that were in "later" dates that were obviously printed earlier etc so I tend to lean towards the 2 printing locations. And I'm glad they did, if they did. If they didn't all the good stuff would be gone and all I would get is junk...hey, all I do get is junk...?
I could ramble no forever about this. But it's late. Hope that helps. If not, collect 1988 Donruss. Its' easy.
