no, an "Oval O" is normal for this date. It's 1888 and 1889 with an "Oval O" that you want to watch out for.

I think you are right. I have seen my share 84-O's and none of them look this elongated. I would love to see that under the stereoscope,

But yeah, the mm looks more like a zero than an O. But I have no idea on my Morgan variety stuff.

It does look a little taller and thinner than usual.

I never noticed the differences in "O" mint marks.

A perusal of my Dansco shows a tall thin "O" in the years 1881 through 1884.

But for some reason, your "O" looks a little taller still.

I think we need better pictures.
