I've always thought O mintmarks on Morgans look like a dropped egg.

no, an "Oval O" is normal for this date. It's 1888 and 1889 with an "Oval O" that you want to watch out for.
  • I think you are right. I have seen my share 84-O's and none of them look this elongated. I would love to see that under the stereoscope,

You, the mintmark, AND the coin look strange. So what else is new.

But yeah, the mm looks more like a zero than an O. But I have no idea on my Morgan variety stuff.

Speaking of strange, remember when you kept begging me for some GA peanuts, and hounding me, until I finally ordered you some?

I'm still on that company's mailing list. Got a "We're Nuts!" catalog today. image

Like we have peanuts here in coastal GA. Sheesh. Talk to me about shrimp (but don't ask me to ship any). Or pecans. Those we have.

Peanuts are more of a west GA thing, I reckon.

What a delight to totally hijack and derail your thread with semicoherent rambling about nuts. Haha.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

It does look a little taller and thinner than usual.

I never noticed the differences in "O" mint marks.

A perusal of my Dansco shows a tall thin "O" in the years 1881 through 1884.

But for some reason, your "O" looks a little taller still.

I think we need better pictures.
