Grades in - german states

It took longer than I had anticipated, but the small submision arrived today from 'across the street' at NGC. I went 5 for 6 on this one. I used the good guys at coins plus in Cincinnati to submit the coins for me. Door to door time was a little over 3 months. I was not sure how long it would take, thus my repeated questions & comments on the forum recently about turnaround.

I think that all the following have been posted to the forum at some point, but I will get some pics later this weekend. Actual grade followed by my estimated grade in parenthesis.

1688 Cologne taler - sede vacante - regular holder F-15 (VF-20)
I couldn't be happier for this one. It was one of my riskier purchases when I bought it raw on MA shops.

1746 Bamberg medal - sede vacante - oversized holder AU-55 (MS-61)
1724 Hildesheim medal - sede vacante - oversized holder AU-55 (AU-50)
1763 Freising medal - sede vacante - regular holder AU-58 (AU-55)
1763 Regensberg medal - sede vacante - oversized holder AU-55 (MS-60)
1621 Frankfurt taler - BB for cleaning (VF-20)

I see you are still collecting "Sedes", but what's with the Frankfurt taler? Are you now collecting Frankfurt? If you are. I know where you can get a bunchimage Anyway, good grades on some hard coins.3Mark

Hi Larry. The frankfurt was something I bought on a whim a few years ago because the design was distinctive and the price was right. I figured that I might have more success in selling it if it were in a slab so I threw it in the submission. I thought it had original surfaces, but NGC seems to have thought otherwise. If it was cleaned it must have been a loooooong time ago. I will post some new pics later for others to see.
  • Sounds like you did quite well!
I'm looking forward to pics also...
As far as turnaround times go- I submitted to PCGS- 16 coins (all German 1 Marks) on the 12th of September and got one back last night already- 21 Days!! So it seems their turnaround times on World Coin Submissions have improved dramatically! Hopefully I will get the rest of them today or Monday.

Where is the pic of the Frankfurt BB? Looks like NGC was a little harsh on the grades, but they seem to have tightened up their grading lately and have been slow (for them) on turnaround times.3Mark

Here is the bodybagged taler. Perhaps the reverse fields show evidence of cleaning, but I figured it was market acceptable given the overall appearance.

Edited to add that I still like it regardless.
  • Those are some absolutely beautiful medals!
    Thanks so much for sharing.

Nice group! The BBed thaler doesn't look bad at all.
