two questions about ike

1. i keep seeing ike's on ebay that state that this coin is silver and comes from the red pack.
what is the red pack and why not sale the ike in the red pack.

2. silver ikes come in '71 -'76 proof sets, right?
and brown boxs, any other.

3. my brain fart'ed , I guess.

There is also a 3 piece 1976-S Mint Set which contains a 40% silver uncirculated quarter, half and IKE Dollar dual dated 1776 - 1976-S.

The envelope they came in was red and is commonly referred to as a "Red pack"



The 1976-S Silver Proof Ike came in a 3 pc Proof Set dual dated 1776 - 1976-S.

If I remember correctly the Red packs werer the silver mint sets the blues were the clads.

The 40% silver proof IKE'S came in single coin "Brown Packs" in 1971-S, 1972-S, 1973-S & 1974-S.

Blue pack single dollar Eisenhower's were silver (40%).

Brown box single dollar Eisenhower's were silver (40%).

Mint sets that had Ike with other coins were not silver (1973-1978). (Except the 1976 sets shown by GRANDAM)

I'm reading some mixed information so here's my input:

1971 - No IKEs in the Proof Set and No IKEs in the Mint Set.
The two silver IKEs that were available were:
- The 40% Silver Business Strike (Blue Pack)
- The 40% Silver Proof (Brown Box)
Both were sold individually.

Copper Nickel Business strikes were available only from regular bank business transactions from Denver and Philadelphia.

1972 - No IKEs in the Proof Set and No IKEs in the Mint Set.
The two silver IKEs that were available were:
- The 40% Silver Business Strike (Blue Pack)
- The 40% Silver Proof (Brown Box)
Both were sold individually.

Both Silver Sets were sold individually and were not a part of the Proof or Mint Sets.

But on ebay I have seen post like; 1977 Ike Dollar from Red Pack or 1978 from Red Pack.

Either they have no idea as to what there talking about or could the red pack be from the mint set.

And the only blue pack I see is the 40%silver, one coin only pack.

You'll see a lot of Ike sellers calling them silver, even when they're not; they either don't have a clue, or don't care. Most, don't even bother to answer, and only a few say "I didn't know that".

A "red" pack from a mint set could be construed as the "red" lines that are on the Denver packet in the Mint Sets and likewise a "blue" pack from a mint set could be construed as the "blue" lines that are on the Philadelphia Mint packet in the Mint Sets.



Perhaps Red Packet would be more appropriate but....whatever.
