Just recieved my new Anacs Cert coin today....

How do you tell if a coin is an SMS coin or a business strike. The certificate does not specify. The coin has very nice surfaces and great luster. Would would you grade it? What do you think Anacs graded it in 1981?

I have no idea on diagnostics, but I'd call that an SMS. I think it grades about a 65/66.

Ok, here is the certificate, it's my earliest to date.

that particular issue has a diagnostic which is unique to the SMS die that struck it, the easily seen "burnished" area to the right of the obverse portrait near the rim. if i'm not mistaken, some of the best 1965 Quarters came off that obverse die.
