Anybody got a nice 1939-S Jefferson nickel?

This date for some reason is especially difficult to find nice. If any of our astute Jefferson collectors out there have a really nice one, please share so we can see what one is supposed to look like!

you know what, i have a 1939-S Reverse of 1938 in a 2x2 somewhere, but i'm embarrassed to say i haven't been able to find it for about 6-8 months now. not that i've searched non-stop for it, but every now and then i pull out the boxes and can't figure out where it's at!!! the coin is probably a strong MS65 with great luster and weakness at the 4-5 step area under pillar three, but it's nice.

i'll find it one of these days.......................

I don't know how much good this will do as I can't find the close-up photo, but here's one I used to own:

Don't feel bad keets, for awhile, I'd "lost" my AG 1885 nickel, but found it again (whew!) -- so I know how you feel.

As to a '39-S, have a nice raw one, prob makes 65, but nothing special about the steps (average.) Sorry, I have no pic to share. image

Here's mine. It has quite a few nicks on the obverse. Is this a reverse of 1938? It looks like it compared to Keets pics.

Please explain the different reverse types for the years 38, 40 as I am having a hard time telling them apart...

I would imagine that the difference in reverses is that the '38 has five largely indistinct steps while the '40 has six much more defined steps. However, I am not especially knowledgeable in this series so you may want to wait for someone better equiped to answer.

I also have had a hard time finding nice examples of the '39-S and I bought a wonderfully toned piece raw in 1998 and sent it to PCGS at that time where they graded it MS64. If my scans of the coin allow me to determine the reverse then I will post that, too.
