............i don't much care for the idea. i like the date, motto on the face of the coin! what are your thoughts?

I think it is neat on larger coins but if the coin is smaller it can't be easily read...

I love edge letting on coins.

    French gold pieces. Mexican silver.

Lots of examples of nice edge designs.

I hate the edge lettering on Presidential Dollars. It is sloppy, crude and seems to damage the rim too. I suspect that is what you originally meant; the awful edge lettering on the US Golden Dollars.

I like lettering on the edges, but I do not like the date and mint mark being moved solely to the edge.
Having the denomination or motto repeatedon the edge is a nice touch especially on the larger coins.

I like it a lot on some coins, gold comes to mind, on others, not so much.

I like it on larger coins. If some of the mottos can be placed on the edge, the obv & rev of the coin will be less cluttered.

I like edge Decus et tutamen on coins. That's the Latin text UK pound coins.

The US just needs to get better at it.

It all depends on the coin. (and design, of cource) The date should NEVER, IMO, appear solely on the edge.

It seems that most Americans are fine with edge lettering, with the exception of having IGWT on the edge.

The date, mintmark, denomination, and country of orgin should never be put on the edge. Anything else is all right with me.
